The nation of Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake. The governments of Cuba and Venezuela responded within hours with medical brigades, firefighters, fuel and supplies, and there has been massive sympathy, generosity and volunteerism from workers around the world. What a difference compared to the response from ...the the United States. The U.S. government has pledged assistance in the way of one hundred million dollars – less than is spent on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in just two days.

 

I like how I see commercials like:

Text 1-800-HAITI or some shit to donate money.


Wheres the 1-800-HOMELESS to help the homeless Americans with money? Why do we give millions to Haiti, when our own fuckin country needs help.

 

That 50,000$ could feed alot of people..

 

Well when you put it that way I'd go for the bud. They're already getting my money. If you pay taxes then you're funding the aid. Where do you think the government gets money to aid countries?

Nobody helps the US but when they're in trouble they run to us...

I'd rather deliver money to them directly, or bring them a bunch of food. Once we make a donation, it is handled by the IMF and the world bank. Money from government, given to government only leads to the expansion of government. I feel so bad for the haitians, and we're only gonna make it worse. Our money won't go to the victims directly, but the haitian gov't. They've already begun putting haitains into refugee camps (most likely concentration like camps) and our money will continue to "fund" this. When will our country learn to keep it's nose out of other people's business. Don't get me wrong, i'm all for helping out haiti, just in the right way.

Yeah donating is fine and dandy don't try and say people who donate are somehow more caring than those who don't. I could spare $10, hopefully it's put to good use.

the real kudos goes to the ones actually going over there and getting involved.
