"Honesty measuring" food stands?

  1. So today after I baked and I was eating I turned on the news and there was this dumb ass story. Basically, at sports stadiums and arenas etc in big cities across the nation there is a company that is placing food stands with juice and chips and shit, but the sign says honor system and you just throw your money on the counter and go, nobody to watch or give a fuck if you don't pay. They say they are doing this to measure people's honesty, but what do you think of it, and what would you do? Morally, I don't think it's wrong to take something in the case, especially if it is knowingly being setup that way by some dumbass company. I also think the idea of measuring a cities honesty is fucking preposterous so I'd probably take one juice for my cotton mouth, one for my friend, and one for some homeless guy (there's an assload around the stadium by me)

    TL;DR
Stands where there are snacks and drinks that aren't monitored and you are free to take whatever and payment is based on the "honor system" What do you think and would you take any?

  2. If I took something, I'd pay for it. I don't get down with stealing.

  3. I think you have no honor. :smoke:

  4. Id take one and throw in a couple cents,

    No silver though :devious:

I think you have no honor. :smoke:[/quote]

I have morals, they're just different. Here's how I see things: I consider the whole pay it forward thing differently. If a homeless guy asks me for change I almost always give him a dollar. I don't care If he spends it on crack, booze, or food, because I know that if I was in that shitty situation I would want whatever made me happy. I dont steal from houses, lockers, people, anyone personal, but when it becomes big business it loses it's moral obligations for me. Especially a company with this business model, knowingly throwing away revenue that could be used for a much better cause and achieve a better purpose.

  6. That is One way of looking at it.

Of course they wouldn't be throwing away revenue and could use it for worthy purposes, if people would be more than half way honest. rationalization may calm your mind, but it doesn't correct the wrong. :smoke:

  7. Dont get me wrong, I'm not rationalizing, just giving my view of how I think things even out.

  8. If I leave something out half expecting it to get stolen, I can't blame the morally corrupt for taking it. That's the case in THIS scenario. It's basically a skewed way to measure something that you can't really measure. Honesty varies from situation situation.

  9. This isn't the first place to use the honor system, I've heard plenty of stories of food establishments using the honor system and it worked out quite well for some of them (probably works best in small communities). Some people through down less, some more, some couldn't afford (or just didn't want to) throw down any money. Good system I think, as long as it's not abused (which is obviously key, if the people are amoral it'll be abused and shut down).

  10. Very valid points jnug.
