so my friend is about to turn 19 and lives at home while going to school. his parents are NOT cool with weed, they are the type that ANYTHING bad that happens to him they immediately blame weed. my friend however, is the biggest stoner youll ever find lol, so as you can imagine they clash often. in the past i know thing have gotten physical (back in high school he got a bit violent because his mom wouldnt give him his bud back, for example). anyways, this weekend he was smoking in his room, which hes been caught doing many times but just doesnt care. his parents usually confront him and i know theyve gotten into some huge fights, but i guess this time they took a different approach and called the cops. i know theyve called the cops on him before, but im pretty sure it was only after he got violent with them. so they call the fucking cops and get them to bring in drug dogs and let them lose in his room. the way my friend described it his door was flung open and two k9 dogs fucking mauled his ass to the ground. he ended up spraining his wrist from the fall as well as getting his face fucked up and bloody. obviously, the dogs found his weed, but it was fucking less than a gram AND he has his medical card, so the cops didnt even charge him with shit. im guessing his parents had to pay for the drug dogs, but they didnt even care because they said it was "worth it to see him suffer because of his choices", and that they hoped he learned his lesson. my question is, does my friend at all have a case against his parents, or even law enforcement? when i heard this story i thought theres no way they can pull that shit within the law, i mean its technically there property so no warrant was necessary but can you really just unleash drug dogs on someone like that?
If his parents don't want him smoking in the house, why is he smoking in the house? Your friend needs to learn some fucking respect.
I just don't get why he smokes in his room underneath his parents roof... like shit, if I still lived with both fo my parents, and they were that much against weed, I wouldn't even bother...i'd just go outside. And why can't he just, I dont know? Move out?
As much as the above posters have a point, I don't think OP is looking for advice for where his friend should smoke. I think he wants a specific question addressed..
^cos he's going to school^ (to caressarose) shit man sounds rough hope your mate is okay. maybe a lawsuit is possible I mean at least for medical bills. Everyone's saying he should "learn some goddamn respect" or whatever which is true BUT these people sound like sadistic dicks...do they deserve it? and the lawsuit should be against law enforcement i think. if the parents didn't want him smoking in their house then the police should have told him not to smoke in their house not burst into his room with dogs
the thing is they barely let him go out either and he has to blaze and i guess its easier to sneak tokes in his room than sneak out of the house. his parents are super super controlling
Exactly. If they don't like it enough to the point that they'll sic drug dogs on him, then maybe it's time for him to reconsider his usage in the house. Still fucked up about those dogs though, I fucking hate dogs.
Lawsuit: NOPE. Police don't let drug dogs loose like that unless they think the person is dangerous. So if his parents said he had a gun, or something the police did what they did to protect themselves. As for your friend: Smoking in a house he lives at rent free is fucking stupid. In all honesty, he did deserve something like that. Karma is a bitch ain't it?

Who said he lives rent free? Chances are he does, but dont jump to conclusions yet. I feel like age is the variable here. If he is 18 why dont they just say next time your caught your shit will be waiting for you in the streets.
First. Story sounds un true your friend prob is leaving out detials when he told you. 2nd wtf why forsnt doesnt he just go outsidr or away or move out?
There are at least two sides too every story and the truth is in the middle of the opposing stories. Hard too say what exactly happened and who was the most wrong. That said, the parents have the final say on what happens under their roof. They get to make the rules and if your friend can't accept that then he needs to move out.
Even if he is paying rent, he has to live under the rules of his parent's house regardless, just like if he lived in an apartment or if he rented a home elsewhere.
Why didn't he just explain to the officers he has his medical card and is complying with the state law. Dogs don't attack someone unless a command is given. At least this is what I was told by an officer. This whole story sounds like a load.
It comes down to this. Even if he is paying rent, unless his name is on the lease, he can not do shit. His parents can even call and have him arrested. Why? Cause his name is not on the lease. And no parent will even think to put their now 18 child on the lease, unless the landlord bitches. If his parents own the house? Then same thing. If his name isn't on the papers, his parents can fuck with him. And it sounds like they know it too.
