Hey Guys. A few months ago I got an MFLB. I fell in love with it, then I lost it on vacation So I began to read up on how it works and saw some builds people had done in order to make a homemade MFLB. It works off of completing a high resistance battery circuit to make steel mesh hot to heat the herb. I figured this would be fairly easy to make for a DIYer, but I am horrible at making things with my hands. So, I decided to sacrifice some of the perks of the MFLB (nice case, durable) to build a small, super easy, and cheap prototype. As of now, it is more like an experiment, but it works pretty well. Materials: 2000 mAh rechargeable battery or higher two paper clips electrical tape aluminum foil herb Sounds too simple to be true. Well, essentially it is an MFLB. But instead ofa screen, I use foil, and instead of copper conducting rods, i use paperclips. WARNING!!!! THIS CAN GET VERRRYYY HOT AND BURN YOU!!! THAT IS WHY THE MFLB HAS A WOODEN CASE!!! DONT BE AN IDIOT AND BURN YOURSELF OR LET THE TWO ENDS ACCIDENTALLY CONNECT AND START A FIRE!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PEOPLE TRYING THIS AT HOME AND BURNING THEIR HOUSES DOWN Step 1: Unfold the paperclips and tape them to the + and - ends of the battery. If the clips connect, it will begin to get super hot. Don't let them touch accidentally. Step 2: Get some weed. A tiny amount. Wrap it in a tiny bit of tinfoil. Just enough to make a little ball. Step 3: Complete the circuit with the tinfoil ball. To achieve a better connection/ circuit, I jab one end of the clip into foil so i don't have to hold the super hot clips. In a few seconds, you should smell vapor. It may combust or not even get hot enough, depending on resistance of circuit. Well, thats as far as I've gotten. But mine heats up as fast/faster than my MFLB. I'm thinking about making a wooden case, but not i just suck the vapor like a hotknife hit. You guys are creative and will be able to think of other ways to vape with this. I plan on finding copper rods instead of paper clips and making it so the battery snaps into place. I may use a battery pack for this. However, I like the idea of the tinfoil as bowls because it allows for dispensable bowls that I can throw away once i use, and it heats up quickly enough. EDIT 1: At the contacts, the aluminum might get hot enough to burn if you use a small amount. Kinda gross.. i'm not so sure if i recommend it anymore. I am going to get some steel mesh tomorrow. Anything from a strainer etc should work fine though. -josh
This was intended as a first step to making an MFLB. I have only smoked this once to test because the aluminum is nasty. But with some mesh it should vape well and is so easy to make.
its not a very effective use of the batteries power, a battery hooked up to a joule thief that goes into a bi toriod step down transformer with a back emf coil in it would make better use of the electricity
I don't have a clue what you just said but I'm guessing it's more efficient that what I have. The battery doesn't last long like the MFLB. You guys are missing the point. I am simply illustrating how simple the concept is. With a 5 minute trip to the hardware store and $5 to get a copper rod and mesh for a bowl, and using an altoid box as the body, you could have a functioning MFLB style vape. Also, I am only using tinfoil as an example to show that it works. Smoking out of it would be nasty. No need to be a dick about it and post unhelpful comments.
That's awesome! Thanks for a new way to toke without any source of heat or fire! I may try this one day...
that was just how i would do it, i fool around with electronics alot, but if you eventually use stainless steel screening like a mflb, i have a few tips that might be of some help; a smaller section of screen will heat up faster than a bigger one and uses less electricity to do so. so will a piece with thinner wire, i would go with a smaller section of mflb's screen size to vape with because thinner wire will burn out alot easier than thicker wire will, plain steel wire will rust really fast if you constantly heat it up and cool it, so that is why they use stainless. if you want help or anything feel free to pm me
Not smoking out of the copper. Smoking out of the steel mesh. None of these materials should get to more than 450 degrees so there really isn't any danger in any material. I'll take pics this weekend when I make a better version. It's a pain in the ass to use right now.
