i was in home depot to get some cfls for my indoor cabinet grow and i spotted some 150W HPS bulbs for $30 (Canadian). i was wondering if i can use these bulbs in any kind of light fixture or if they need a special kind. i took one out of the box and it screws into normal light sockets, im jus worried if it will overheat or cause a fire? thanks for any info
idk about these 150's since i saw this site that said the 150's go in regular sockets not E39. google it cause I'd like to know too. i'll post if i get a def answer
http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/full-spectrum-150w-hps-bulb-p-57.html but i still think you need a ballast
i looked up some more stuff and im pretty sure anony is right about the ballast. i read even if it does screw into the socket it needs a ballast to convert to the proper voltage or sumthing and the bulb will blow right away.
The HPS bulbs are replacements for their security lights. HPS bulbs require a ballast and ignitor to work. I'm using a 70W HPS security light that I bought at home depot for around $50. The 150 watt model costs around $150 http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...nktype=product&storeId=10051&ddkey=THDSiteMap
this link says right under it that its a standard light bulb socket. (cfl not HPS) This might be helpful.. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=99240
