About 10 days ago, like an idiot, I ran the sulfur burner with the lights on in the veg room. Previously, I had been spraying the ladies with plant therapy, sometimes being a bit excessive. The sulfur burner spilled over and it made a mess. I began to notice a problem with the plants closest to the burner. The fan leaves of those plants started to have holes in them. After some digging online, I came across a grower who had a similar problem, I would say his were a bit worse, but the pattern matched (see first link). I stopped running the sulfur burner since then, I removed the damage fan leaves, but now 10 days later, the problem seems to be persistent/spreading and involving the new growth. They look like something has been chewing on them. I used a loupe and have not found any pest on or below the leaves. I inspected the stems, nothing as well. At this point, I wouldn't be mad if I did find something because no one seems to know what the problem is. It's an indoor grow. Temp around 76-78. No signs of any pest. They are in coco + perlite mixed, under 600w metal halide about 4 foot above the canopy. I have about 58 clones in cups, 12 teens in 3 gallon pots. I'm thinking about destroying the crop and starting up again, but I would sleep better if I can identify the problem. Sulfur Burner Caused Leaf Damage. What Should I Do, If Anything?
Something is eating the leaves. Likely from the underside. A good scan of the underside of the leaves with jeweler's loupe will show you what it is.
I've scanned the underside of affected leaves on different plants, nothing. The reason I don't think its a pest is because their is no pattern to the problem. On some leaves they look like caterpillar bites, on others they look like an acid burn, and on some just a few small holes. A few plants its the top ones, on others its the bottom. I gave the ladies a shower last night, put them under a T5 and maybe I'm being hopeful, but it didn't seem like there was anything progressing today. I've had a pest problem before when I initially got into growing. I adjusted my IPM (didn't really have on before) and I'm familiar with the usual suspects. I don't know, I'll continue to monitor.
I have this same issue. My plants are outdoors and no signs of pests. I have no idea what the cause is.
Strange...are you using any type of oil based spray? The problem looks like it has slowed down a great deal. I showered them and have just been monitoring the situation. I also now have them under a T5 now as opposed to the 600w light.
Never sprayed anything on the leaves I thought something was eating them. My plants are about 5-6feet tall and 2nd week of flower. I have about 5-6 leaves like this on each plant.
I think I found the issue I found some leaf hoppers on my plants today. I did some research and the damage I’m seeing on the leaves looks to be from them! I sprayed an insecticide soap on the plants hopefully that does it. Also removed the affected leaves. I’m 2 weeks into flower so I don’t want to be spraying anything else on the plant.
Neem oil, shit is all natural. Spray right after sun goes down or lights go off so you dont burn your leaves. Spray tops and under sides every few days, your two weeks into flowering so I wouldnt worry too much about spraying neem.
The problem has resolved. I didn't do anything extra. Just continued the usual stuff and monitored the situation. Strange...
Mine is getting worst ordered Neem oil and sticky traps today. Am I good to keep cutting off the effected leaves even though it’s attached to a bud site? Or do I start cutting off branches?
Hi there, what was the solution for this? I have been spraying a bit of neem oil, but have not seen a change. Do I need to remove the damaged leaves? Thanks for your help.
