    Call him, then you can text him after he knows who you are.

    i'd call, random texts from random people are definetely sketch.
    call and let him know whats goin on, and then once you've picked up off him or met up with him i'd text him.

    I'd go with the call method as well. I know some guys who don't like dealing with that subject over the phone line, but it's way less sketchy for a first contact. And if he's older, that might mean he's more traditional. Just tell him, "Yo, I got your number from Buddy Guy who said you might be able to hook me up with some pot?"
     
    Easy-peasy. You'll be ripping a big one in no time at all.
