"Hippie Comunes" - Beyond belief..

Discussion in 'General' started by Aja, Oct 10, 2010.

  1. There are still Hippie communes In NorCal and the Pacific Northwest:smoke:

  2. That is great but until humans evolve past our still very animalist ways it won't happen. Human nature's a bitch.

  3. I am completely with you man. I have been discussing the just about exact same ideas over here. The general way of life needs to stop focusing on how much taxed paper you have to whats most important for the overall way of life. I agree that living like that is more a pipe-dream that should but never will be. I am sure our illustrious government would put a stop to that sort of lifestyle as it is similar to socialism and you know how horrible a word the government has turned that into.

Keep on smoking/growing everyone! I am going to hit some bud. :smoke:

  4. ya man. Ideally, in the future, i'd like to get land somewhere and actually make a place like this possible. but would need people behind me too

  5. You can't 'own' land. Mankind has lost the ability to be one with nature. Unless we change, we'll choke our planet until it can no longer bear life.

  6. There are still hippie communes all over the world. I've talked to a lot of people who started their own communes and they seem pretty happy. It's a lot of work but I think it's worth it. If you want, pm me and I'll give you a link to a forum with the people I talked to. It's full of useful information and people who would be willing to join you should you decide to start a commune of your own.

  7. I'd join. If I get rich someday I want to live like they did in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test at Kesey's house.

  8. if that were so then we would all agree and do this instinctively , but we dont , not everyone thinks this way

you can have a universal 'way to live' people always disagree

  9. They tried this, the majority of them fail horribly. It's just the human condition, we can't get along together forever.

    Why?

People aren't used to doing all the work it takes to live life that you pay others to do, via trickling down, so they just don't do the work. Work becomes inbalanced, then the communes fall apart. Frustrations run high, and we as humans would have to find the perfect group before starting.

Read a book called "Drop City" by T.C Boyle, it talks about the commune life and is AMAZING :D.

Drop City - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    ^^ Drop City.

  10. That isn't necessarily true. There are thousands of successful communes located across the globe, and the more the Western world and the economy continues to fail, the more people are making the switch to this unconventional lifestyle.

Aja, I completely agree with what you're saying about society. I too want to live in a commune, in fact I may do it next year when my lease is up.

There's a large commune called the Farm in southern TN. It was in it's prime decades ago, and underwent a lot of changes due to financial troubles (unequal wealth distribution as the story goes), but it's still kicking with a few hundred people. And it's quite independent, pretty much the same services as a typical town. I actually went to paramedic school with two dudes who worked on the Farm :smoke:

Not sure if I'd care for the type of living myself, but it's interesting. I think it could definitely have a positive impact on the people who try it, whether they enjoy it and stay or not.

It ain't my cup of tea personally, but it's pretty awesome to see people working and creating a better world for themselves. The pessimists label any foreign type of society as utopian, take their opinions with a grain of salt. Large-scale, forced communism always fails, but the smaller communes are different, as you know and care about the people around you, and you all share the same (or similar) visions. The members often fall to human laziness, but many communes seem to be standing the test of time. It's cool to see people trying to get away from the chaotic society of the modern US it's so easy to be forced into.

  14. I smoked with them when I went up north. I respect thier privacy by not giving away the location of the commune. But they all ended up wanting my money and weed. I didnt get robbed, but boy did they ever beg!! I gave them what I could and then I was on my way. Real chill people.

  15. we call it a " Music Festival " now

  17. Sorry but begging is not chill in my book. But that might be partly because I end up feeling guilty even if I dont want to. Its shitty for people to put you in that situation because then its like you're investing emotion in money which is dumb. yeah I need to shut up...

Any way Id be down for a new gen hippy commune where we have property but do all that good earth shit. No shitty food mainly homegrown organics. Everyone be friendly and chill and what not. Solar Power everything. Fresh filtered high quality pure H20. Growing different strains and swapping with neighbors. Advanced homes. Stuff like that.

  18. Fucking stereotypes
