Hip Hop Project.

  1. So, I'm doing a project for class. It's due in March, and it's entirely based on anything that interests you or whatsoever. I decided Hip hop. My specific topic is "How has the 90's Hip Hop Music influenced today's modern hip hop, and how much has changed from the 90's to today's."
I've been strongly thinking of doing a documentary, and I have a good chance getting an interview done with Sir Mix A Lot. At the current moment, I'm asking myself questions that i should answer that could help the project itself. Basically build a base.
Any good questions that should be answered? Also any other advice for my project is greatly appreciated.

  2. the Mafioso style of rap in the 90s influenced all the champagne poppin trend now a days

kool keith was the 1st rapper to were the sports jersey

  3. Popping champagne has been a part of hip hop since sugarhill.

Wow op, sir mix a lot haha that's nice, let us know what he's doing these days.

If you ask me, lyrical content hasn't changed much over the years, but the beats have, I'd look into the movement away from sampling caused by court cases and stuff. I think it made more 'musical' beats harder to make as they had to be originally composed or paid for, which meant producers found it easier to make those cringe worthy tic tic tic beats, I don't know how to describe the style I'm referring to but it's everywhere.

    Good luck

  4. g-funk.

  5. Well, everything on mainstream is mostly one sided, doesn't explore too much, unlike the 90's.

  6. all of it was influenced....these modern rappers grew up on those 90s rappers...Lyrics stepped up...production stepped up....

  7. Sir mix a lot has his own youtube account and he actually responds to peoples comment. He did to mine, when i asked him if he's working with another producer from my hometown(Seattle). Im guessing he might have time for an interview on skype. As for beats yea, true. I've kind of realized that many rappers and producers now, have started sampling a lot from the 90's songs. I know that the 90's were more original, and original beats, and less sampling, but i may be wrong

  8. It's not necessarily 90's hip hop that has influenced modern mainstream hip hop but rather the commercialism surrounding the industry. Mainstream hip hop and music in general have devolved in the past couple of decades.

  9. I feel like the advance in technology has made the technical quality better (the audio quality), but I feel like a lot of production quality now-a-days is lacking.

Beats are too watered-down or sound like they are straight out of a drum-machine or keyboard (and not necessarily in the good way).

  10. that's tight. shouts out to Washington state, and talk about diss tracks and how they've evolved over the years as well

  11. I feel you on this

  12. The added increase of image to the game, it was the 90s when it started to matter how "gangsta" you were, or at least looked.

That definitely seems to be a big part of commercial rap these days.

And the use of hip-hop to sell clothes etc. Rappers used to just wear shitty champion hoodies, sweats/jeans and timbalands, now they get sponsored to wear BAPE and Armani n shit.

  13. yeah just talk about the straight commercialization of rap and how the audience started to change which in turn changed the music, suburban white kids are the biggest consumer of hip hop and rap today so the mainstream music has to be more adapted to them
