High Tech Security for $30

  1. For all of you closet growers living with other people....worrying about people snooping around in your room sucks. Even with people living alone, a little security never hurts. My roommate knows I grow...but sometimes I wonder if he's fucking around in there...shit grow aside just in general. Sure you could put a lock on your door, but a credit card will usually bust right through that with a bedroom door. Thats when I started thinking creatively, and I thought:

    1. I have a Macbook Pro with a built in iSight
    2. It's right next to my closet
    3. Technology can do anything

Then BAM, it hit me...I could use my computer as a security cam. But who wants to looks through hours of video files? That's a little crazy...then I thought....MOTION DETECTION.

With a little google-ing, I came across an awesome app called EvoCam. In a nutshell it turns your built in iSight into a powerful security system. You can arm a motion detector within the app to perform an action when someone walks by your computer (which sits on my desk, right next to my closet...impossible to not walk by to get in there). It can play a sound, say something...but the best part is IT CAN EMAIL YOU THE SECOND IT'S TRIPPED...and provide a snapshot in the email. For those of us with iPhones or any other phone with push email, we can know who was snooping around the second they do it.

The app only costs $30, however you can get a free trial for 15 days. Well worth the cost.

  5. That's excellent!!! I have a macbook pro too...genius!

  6. Why not download it free? I would post a link but I doubt that's ok.

  7. another alternative is any sort of webcam (you can even use a ps3 eye cam, and download the drivers to work on any computer), and webcamxp5

webcamxp5 lets you stream the webcam online, lets you add user/pw's to be able to view the stream, has motion detection, and will even txt/email you if theres a motion detected

  8. Quick google search reveals TinCam for Windows. :)

  9. download yawcam, its completely free (legally) and has motion capture and you can even have it email it to you when it happens.

  10. my vista has a built in camera and a program to sit it up as a motion detection security camera, if u have a built in camera there is a chance u have i t too. I have a dell inspiron 1525:D

  11. You could also use the laptop to take shots of the growing action.
