high school drug testing petition

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by TheGreenWalrus, Oct 21, 2011.

  1. Not 100% on where to start this but I'm a senior in high school and recently I had to stop toking due to my school doing random drug tests to anyone that drives and parks on campus. I've already been tested failed and I was just tested again. Now my school district has had to make budget cuts as I believe many others have. So lately I've been hearing about how none of my teachers ever have enough paper or supplies due to these cuts. What I've been thinking was if there was a petition to put an end to these drug tests and put the money towards the supplies and needed materials that we don't have anymore. If there was a petition I'm just curious as to what you all think, would it be worth a try or just a wasted effort.

  2. Don't just stop at drug testing, go after DARE! It has been shown, numerous times, to do nothing to deter drug use and is a total waste of time and money!

  7. I thought that would have broken some kinda privacy law but apparently thats not the world we live in

  8. Now this mutha-fucker has your back OP, haha:smoke:
I'm surprised they didn't do this back when I was in high school, but this sounds pretty unconstitutional.

I'm sure the founding father would be appalled to hear schools are randomly stealing urine from people!

  9. when i was in highschool if they asked me to do a drug test i would tell them to fuck off. thats bullshit

If they had me drug tested in school randomly, and not for sports, I would not consent to it. Even if I didn't smoke... Schools take away so many rights from people in the name of education, it is terrifying. I guess you gotta do something though, if rights were not taken away you'd have 16 year olds coming in wearing swastikas and confederate flags and almost no clothing for some of the ladies. Damn our youth. Though I would be interested in what would happen if we had any hindus at our school and the swastika was a religious item... I ponder...

  11. Sorry but Im fairly certain the school has every right to do so. If you choose to attend, once on their property, you are on private property and must follow those rules. And sadly it doesnt break any sort of constitutional rights.

If your really serious about getting these tests revoked, dont go after the tests. It'll simply look like a bunch of kids who are going to fail them if taken. Granny has some serious information on there. Use it. However, take issues with the fact that they are assuming EVERY student who parks on the campus is a drug user. Focus on how that impacts the view of the school etc. How much it costs per test, including costs of staff to collect everything, run them etc.

Also, if you really going to do this, you have to go after something else as well. Something that is doing the same thing but in a different context. For example, maybe not a good one, but require everyone who takes gym buy full football pads. Yes some people may actually play football, but your assuming EVERYONE has the money to buy pads.... or something.

Point being you have to go after the financial waste aspect of the whole. Include the tests as a point, but you don't wanna come off as a kid who's looking to get around the rules.

  12. Unless you're a role model student with an A- or + average then don't bother, they see it as "dumb pothead wants to smoke pot and not get caught hurrr durrr" sorry.

  13. In my school they wouldnt catch anyone, except the idiots rolling in at 10 o clock and red eyes.

  14. All the kids go on strike. THEY GAVE US PISS TESTS, NOW WE PROTEST!!!!

  15. Schools are not built on private property unless they are private schools. Public schools are built on public land with public funds but schools can restrict access to the buildings and grounds in the name of security, because we all live in fear, and our government likes it that way. The Supreme Court has taken cases involving student rights. Generally students lose, whether it's freedom of speech, whats on your T-shirt, what you can wear, say, or now ingest.

Schools have a lot of authority over you as long as you are on the grounds, and most parents like it that way. Most parents do not believe in democracy, they believe in control, as in, controlling your ass. Most parents are right, kids need guidence and a fair degree of control so you make it to 18. We all do a lot of stupid things when we are young, several of which could have gotten us killed.

Otherwise this is basically this is good advice. You need to go after the wasted money aspect. Also, who is profiting from this? For example, is anyone in the school related to anyone in the testing supply company, or have an interest in the testing supply company through a partnership, business venture, or stock. How about their relatives?

You need an insider in school administration who will tell you how many tests are testing positive, and facter that as a percentage of the kids who drive. Chances are the number will be low, and you can use that to further highlight the waste.

If school board meetings are public, try to get the records of the meeting where it was decided, who voted for it, and who against. Have your parents get it for you. See if there is a connection between the yes voters and the company. Interview the no voters and see what their objections were. They could be allies.

You are a minor, you need adults to join your cause, especially your own parents, who are registered voters and tax payers to that school district, without that you are just a kid going wah wah and will be ignored.

  16. This kinda thing makes me glad I graduated highschool already...

  17. that was my point exactly. Whether its public or private is kinda irrelevant. When your on school grounds, and especially if your a minor, you do what your told. Also, as a minor, you have no rights. Just fyi. If you are under 18 you hold your god given rights, essentially your right to live. Just some food for thought. Thats why most high school movements that are not thought through just right fail miserablly
