good idea just seems like a waste using coco when you dont have to it also seems like alot of extra wieght to move around.
So it works, but it you have to be set up for a soil AND hydro grow which is partly why people do soil grows to avoid the hydro setups, and also because you're only bring in hydro at a late stage you don't get all the benefits of a full on hydro veg which always seem to look so good. So you don't really get he best of either world. Why not just do it all in the bubbler, why bother with the soil at all? If it was a method of having a small bubbler for rooting clones and then transplant them to soil pots, that would be more logical.
I know what you're saying, but surely if you just start in a 5 gal bubbler with your clone, and then when it gets bigger just fit your second bucket on top and make a 10 gallon bubbler. if you make some holes around the edge of the bucket you can affix pieces of string or wire to help you with your LST, or fix them to the lid or whatever. I know it's easier to just pin them into the soil with something but it's easy to add some attachment points to a pot or bucket. What's better, a 10 gallon soil/hydro setup, or a a 10 gallon hydro setup? However, hands in the air, I've not done it, it obviously works fine, it's better to have a system that works for you than one that doesn't, so I'm not saying it's wrong or you should stop doing it. I just think the reason why more people don't do it is, they just do straight hydro. I've seen evidence of grows where people have put a hole in the floor and used the whole lower storey of their house as a bucket for a bubbler, so if they can do that why not just have a big 10 gallon res in the first place?
I run hydro and soil simultaneously when not doing sponsored grows. More is not always better imo. Seems pests could be a huge issue if you live in a place like i do where overuse of pesticides has created superbugs. Nice idea, glad it works for you! Thanks for sharing ~ poke
I live in californias central valley, so they dump 7 million tons of pesticides on us yearly. You could pour bayer onto some of these bugs and theyll swim in it! XD I used to live in northern califoria and the cold prevented bugs, i mean the sierra nevada mountains 7-8k foot
