Hey GC I'm an outdoor grower. I keep my plants inside through the seedling stage before putting them outside. Typically I just use this little fluorescent desk lamp I have and it has worked well in the past (slowly but well). Anyway I recently moved and for some bizarre reason there is a 250w "infared" light in my new bathroom. It still shows a shit-ton of light in the regular spectrum so it's not like completely in the invisible red-spectrum light or anything. Anyway just wondering if anyone has any info regarding using an infared light for growing my seedlings?
That is a very useful bulb...for french fries! Not enough lumens to grow a plant. There is so much argument these days about LEDs and Compact Flourescent Lamps, but amp-for-amp, Metal Halides grow the densest, bushiest, happiest plants for vegetative growth. Since you grow outside for flowering, get a small metal halide to start your nursery indoors. Checkout yard lights at your hardware store. I got a 70W metal halide in an enclosed case for $80 and it throws out some serious lumens. It uses actually 2.7 amps at 110VAC which is similar to a laptop plugged in the wall. 250W Heat Lamp: 250W 70W Metal Halide: 297W Running it 16 hours a day would cost about $8 a month at about 5 cents per kWh. For $24 in total electric costs, you can grow a crop worth at least that much the pot engineer
Thanks man I appreciate it. I doubt my +rep will count but I'll give it a shot. Welcome to GC, it's a great community you'll like it! Best Regards, Indica Kid
