Hey computer techies and builders out there

  1. This is my first build so I'm just looking to see if there is any substitutions I should look at and/or is there any conflicting hardware?

Any tips would be much appreciated.

  2. Looks good! The video card is gonna definatly kick ass for ya. The only think I would consider changing is the mainboard. Go with a nforce based mainboard. They are more designed for gaming and enhanced performance. Also, dont get the Intel Pentium D chip. Even tho is says its dual-core, its not a true dual-core like the Core2 Duo is. I like my PC's to be as quiet as possible, so get good quality heatsinks and fans. Copper is preferred over aluminum, and def get ball-bearing fans that are large in diameter (the larger diameter fans dont need to spin as fast thus reducing noise levels.

Just me .02. Rock on with that build. Newegg is def the way to go for parts.

  3. What processor are you going to get? I didn't see that on the list anywhere.

430 W power supply may be a little low. A couple of years ago when I last built a computer I remember wanting 450 W as a bare minimum. I would imagine since then power usage would increase as the hardware becomes more powerful. Running 4 GB, a powerful video card, and a possible dual core processor (not sure what you are using) will eat a lot of power.

  4. Should all the hardware work together?

  5. I just scanned over what you had, and didnt see Artic Silver. It is a thermal paste. It is almost essential it is a godlike. Make sure you get it, its only like 6.99 a tube!

  6. ill show taxman this and u give him a price and wat u want to do and he will design one perfect for that in ur price range.

  7. yeah get a 550W power supply for sure. I got too low of one and it burnt out right away and cost me bout $100

  8. oh .. and why the 64 bit?

  9. I was planning on getting 4+ gig of memory

Decided to just go with this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229019

    Processor \t AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
    Memory \t 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800
    Hard Drive \t 320GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD
    Graphics \t NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512MB PCI Express x16
Motherboard ASUS M2N SLI - NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI Chipset

    for $620

Looks pretty good to me. Buying a sound card with it as well since reviews say the sound on this rig is pretty bad.

  10. Get a bigger power supply! I got like a 750w but thats a little bit of a over kill for my computer. maybe go with a 550 or something. Also you dont need 64bit for 4gigs of mem I dont think.

  11. Comp above me cost around $650 with shipping + sound card. This setup from Newegg is $657 w/ shipping, though I get 50gb more HD space, better case, and better cooling so I can OC. I'll also get the enjoyment of building my first rig :D I'm looking forward starting.

  12. get the 9600 GT and amd 5000+BE..... at least that is what im planning on upgrading my PC to.

  13. I don't really have the money for a 9600 gt right now. I'll probably upgrade this soon enough though.

  14. Its not really that expensive. The 9600GT usually goes on sale for around $100. for example http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10720BD2013&vpn=BFGE96512GTOCE&manufacture=BFG

Just search for deals using deal hunting sites/forums

for canada its redflagdeals.com, and america is fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net

If you buy used, you can definitely cut down your costs and build something better than you would if you were to pay retail.

  15. the power supply is probably too small. u want 600 and up

  16. 64 bit is what you want if you want to take advantage of 4gig memory

  17. You don't need watts+ of power, 400 is fine. a processor takes the most power, probably 50-90w, and after that it drops significatly for other parts. you likely wont use more than 300w tops. just get a good ps so youre getting the power that you paid for. as said above, you need 64 bit, or you only will get 3.5g of ram, and the rest will be allocated for video. if you dont want to overclock, dont worry much about the mobo, except for what ports you need.

  18. I'll probably OC a little, nothing to intense though. As for 64 bit Vista. What exactly would be different? I'm only getting 2 gig of memory right now. And my PSU is 550W, and is just fine for this setup unless I'm going to dual vid card or OC like crazy n need a lot of coolers.

  19. MAKE SURE YOU GET AN ANTI-STATIC WRISTSTRAP!! You def. don't want to fry all those expensive parts you just bought..
