  1. So I have a '95 Jeep with an exhaust leak. A friend of mine said it would only cost 60 bucks to get it fixed. But it's in the shop getting the fuel injectors cleaned out, and they said it would cost an extra 780 bucks to do the exhaust leak. If anyone else has had something like this fixed, I'm just wondering, are they just trying to rip me off or does my friend just not know what he's talking about? Cause damn, 780 bucks is a lot of fuckin' money...

  2. Depends on where the leak is/how big it is/why it's leaking. If it's a gasket, it's cheap. If a 3 foot section of pipe is rusted out it'll be expensive.

For $780 I'm sure you could buy an entire new exhaust, what kind of jeep is it?

  3. yea, machanics "slang" alot. hell my gf had to have her car fixed, and they strieght up ripped her off and didnt do shit. what mother fuckers.

  4. Yeah, you're getting hosed. I don't know where the leak is, but there are jeep catback exhaust systems online for under $200. Not ebay shit either. Tell them you don't buy it and go for other estimates.

  5. its like when your dealer says, heres an 8th its gonna be 80 becouse we feel like it. you bitch a storm up, and dont take the shit there gonna give ya. :D

  6. Yeah we already told them we're not going to pay that, I already dished out $300 for whatever they did with the fuel injectors and shit.

It's a '95 Grand Cherokee, by the way.

  7. seems like what happened to my gf... i paid for (X amount of dollers) for something they did. get a checklist of everything they do, then have your friend inspect the car to see if they did everything they claim they did.

  8. What I would suggest a muffler shop rather than a mechanic. I've had far better luck dealing with them myself. They seem to be a little more honest in general.

  9. Definitely, that's why I'm having my fiance handle the whole car thing... I'm sure a chick bringing in her jeep to get something fixed that she doesn't even quite understand would look like nothing but dollar signs to them.

  10. Ah, that's a good plan, thank you.

Also, does anyone know whether an exhaust leak will effect the emissions testing? The tags are expired, so I gotta get it into DEQ pretty quick.

  11. exhaust leak will definitely effect emissions especially if its before your o2 sensors. the fuel injector service should not have cost that much unless they replaced them all with new ones, but i think you should take it to a nice mexican runned muffler shop theyll do ya good. if the leak is on the pipes somewhere it should only run around 50 bucks for them to weld in a replacement piece, but if its a cracked manifold it may cost a bit more but nowhere near 700 bucks, go ahead and get a nice pair of headers if thats the case. but for sure go somewhere else and dont let them take advantage of you.

  12. Lol, for that much money I could get a whole new exhaust setup from the headers back. You need to find out if your leak is before or after your catalytic converters/o2 sensors .. it really shouldn't cost that much because a leak can be fixed with some new piping and/or a new muffler or catalytic converter .. just go to a muffler shop like everybody else said - they will let you know what's up.

  13. i actually just had the catalytic converter on my 96 wrangler replaced for free, it was all rattly and shit but apparently there was a recall >:)

  14. hopefully its just a gasket. I have a 300zx I bought for $3000 with a blown engine, it would have costs thousands to fix the engine alone but I bought the parts for like $400 and did the wrenchin myself and now I got a car worth $8000+, not that I would ever sell it. lesson is, pick up a wrench! you'll spend a fraction of what you would paying a mechanic, they overcharge so much! and I know my father was a mechanic most of his life!
