Well, before reading this I realize it might be kind of heart breaking. I haven't done anything involved with growing in awhile due to the lack of a place to do it. My friend decided he, let's do this at my house. So before we have lights, feed, soil, buckets; anything he started to germinate the seeds. These aren't just any seeds though, they're "Tora Bora" seeds from a medical user I know. Now last night as I was over there I realized they were rooting to the paper towel. I don't understand why he started them when we had no supplies yet. So in desperation he put them empty tin cans, not that small; bigger then your average start up dixie cup. He used soil from outside after derooting and taking all the twigs out. Then he mixed water with some Miracle-Gro and watered the plants. Now they're sitting under a florescent bulb, about three feet above them. I think I already know the answer about what's going to happen to these plants... :\ but if you think there's any hope let me know. I'm not really banking on it, but I think if the supplies are gotten within the next few days the plants will have a chance. Like I said, my friend's not the brightest and I don't want to see these seeds be wasted.
Let them root really good.A couple of weeks.Get your stuff ready in the mean time. Then get a bucket of ph neutral water , take the soil plug with the plant out of the tin cup.It will hold tightly together due to starting to root bind.Submerge the roots and soil down in the water and carefully separate the soil from the roots.Cut any damaged roots off, and then put them in the medium of your choice. You may have bugs due to the real dirt he used.So really check em out good. They will most likely go into shock as well so nothing but floro light for a couple of days.G.L.
Thank you, very much. Right now, I'm digging through my garage looking for my old lights :\ gah. The Miracle-Gro he used is high in nitrogen, which I think is a good thing at the start? I could be off, since I've been out of this loop for a while. I'm just hoping it doesn't become to cold for the plants where they're at right now. Well, I'll try what you said once we have all the supplies set up. I just wish people would wait until everything was ready. >_>
Miracle grow in the green box is ok to veg with in soil. It's no good ,really in soilless mixes or hydroponics.
That's because MG uses Urea as the primary form of nitrogen. Urea needs at least 2 beneficial bacteria to convert the Urea to Ammonia to Nitrite to Nitrate (which the plant actually uses). When shopping for nuits for soil-less / hydro look for ferts that derive their nitrogen from Nitrate (NO3).
^^^ No Problem .. Between the two of us we can end up with one really good answer Regarding MG (green box) ... I really wonder if a 5 gallon pot has enough soil to support the necessary bacteria to do the Urea -> Nitrate trick. I had two plants (clones) growing side by side last summer .. both in 5 gal buckets and same soil(less) mix. One got MG-green and the other GH MaxiGro and the MaxiGro was much happier.
Well, as far as I know we're growing in soil. I wanted to make a hydroponic system; and use a different medium, but no one wanted to put in the effort with me. So now the babies are in the tin cans, being fed twice a day with a mixture of water and miracle grow. I hope once the lights and buckets are set up everything will work out. :\ Thanks for all the input though.
Not only that, but seedlings do not need or want nutes for at least the first 3 weeks of life. water+nutes 2x/day?!?!! Are they dead yet? If not, they soon will be. Wet
I know, I know, I know. I told him to just add a little bit of water until he can see that they're sprouting. Instead he insists on mixing in the miracle-gro with the water and watering them with that. Pretty much it happened like "germinated way to early, had nothing to put them in, they started rooting to the paper towel; now they're in tin cups being fed like that."
Don't feed them with miracle grow at this stage. Wait till they are at least 2 weeks old I would say (less if you want to mix it down really diluted). Watering twice a day seems a bit much. Maybe I'm missing something but you should let the soil dry out before watering again. Sounds like you need to to some research asap or those plants are going down haha. Agreed with wet they could be dead already. Take precaution from this point on.
The problem is, this kid is doing the whole "It's my house so we're doing it my way." I know that he's just going to end up killing these poor plants, because he won't listen to what I'm trying to tell him. He keeps insisting the soil needs to be moist at all times, and I'm saying just hold off man.
Maybe you should show him this thread and see how bad he is getting flamed haha well the title might piss him off just noticed that
I already told him he's being stupid about these plants. The seeds weren't cheap or easy to obtain, and I'm just getting pissed off. He's never grown anything before, so just diving into this how he is I know something will end wrong. I've been sending him link after link; and thread after thread. He just keeps saying "Don't worry it'll work. This will make them strong." I think I'm just going to grab the last few good seeds, and get working in my garage. >_>
Bro hate to say it but you need to cut bait with this guy and move on. If you are already having this much problems with him do you see any way that it will get better? Take it as an expensive lesson. How will you jointly decide on light schedules? How will you keep him from getting impatient and cutting off colas to smoke long before they are ready? How will you work out feeding the plants?
Exactly! Right now I'm thinking about grabbing my last few Tora Bora seeds and finding someone who will exchange them for some Lowryder seeds. I know they aren't the best, but in my home situation currently I'd be able to grow tiny auto flowering plants. Maybe once those few babies die, he'll realize he doesn't know what he's doing and something prodcutive will happen.
I was worried everyone would think I was being an asshole about this kid, lol. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just trying to grow some nice dank tree. Ya know?
