dear god guys... i feel so beaten right now... i found a hermy plant that looked so amazing in my tent today... Heres a breakdown. I had 3 plants from seed in my tent along with 3 separate waves (of 8 clones each) in the tent. All 3 waves are 2 weeks apart on the flowering stage. Wave 1 was roughly 2-4 weeks from harvest.. they looked stellar. But was doing maintenance on everything and noticed seed pods in one of the plants i started from seed. Almost pissed myself. Did further investigation, and i found that one of the 3 plants (from seed) had pollen sacks on it. And they definitely bursted all inside the tent... after i realized this i took a really close look at each plant and sure as shit, everything with buds on it was no longer growing buds but growing seeds... my heart is destroyed... The first wave is obviously beyond fixing. The wave after that is just now starting to put out multiple sets of its first pistols. The 3rd wave (which i lied is actually 16 clones instead of 8) just went in this weekend so they do not have any pistols. I know the first wave is trash. I removed the hermy, put a trash bag around it and tied it tight. I fear the 2nd wave showing pistols is a goner too... but the 3rd wave doesnt have its “organs” out yet. Can it be saved? Knowing all this, here are my questions: is it possible to complete the fertilized plants and have an abundance of seeds i can use at a later time, is the 2nd wave a lost cause? And what do i need to do to save the 3rd wave? Some other information, i figured out how the plant turned on me... i definitely had a light leak by leaving the bottom vents open for fresh air. But, i fixed this by placing my ac unit outside of the tent and ducting the cold air in and shutting all the vents. I killed the light in the tent and shut myself in and now i cant see my hand 2 inches in front of my face... Friends please... what can i do to salvage what i have? What do i do from here in general? Is there anything positive i can get from this?? Thanks to everyone in advance... help a noob out here
sounds like you have hermie seeds growing, which will just make more hermies. have a look at the trichomes and decide if you can harvest , even with the seeds it will still smoke ok(just) but not as potent , a bit like back when nobody had any sinsemilla , only bush weed full of seeds or if you were lucky some buddha sticks.
So i did a TON of research last night right after i figured out one went bad.. im about 98.7% sure it went bad because of a light leak. (Tent isnin the same room as veg) while on the internet i seen a video of a guys tent who had the same issue and one of his bottom air vents was open. He took a video of him inside his tent and a good amount of light was comming in from the bottom. Im no expert so im not going to say its NOT genetics but im sold that the light leak made it turn. The plant that turned was also closest to that light leak. I also heard that you can wet them down real good to maybe wash off pollen or “immobilize” it? Is it possible to wash the pollen off the plants that havent shot out pistols yet? Basically the only thing i know to do is remove everything thats making seeds, empty the tent and bleach everything... I was just hoping some pros ran across this before and can guide me in the right direction on what to do next. I didnt make this clear yet but the ONLY thing i want is some strong sensi budds... not trying to cross breed or anything crazy with this...
Yeah water will immobilize and kill pollen but if the pollen is already on the stoma then too late Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Yes you can wash them but that will only get the pollen off the surface if it has already entered the calyx it's a done deal. Now with the seeds if you are confident it was a light leak then the seeds should be good and feminized. 99% will be female. If it's genetics then you already know it will have hermaphroditic tendencies. Almost every grower goes through this at 1 point. Don't beat yourself up to bad it's a right of passage and learning moment in your growing career. I did and I let my son go through it when I was teaching him. I told him I suspected a plant of being herm and he didn't listen. Well he learned the hard way. I hd an employee find a herm and loose it and not say anything. Seeded a whole bay of 800 plants! My extractor in our lab was happy. He got a full bay to extract. Good luck!
Did you wash your tent down? Pollen is everywhere in there right now. I’d scrap everything until you wash the tent or this will be the end result.
Thanks everyone for reaching out... you guys are great here! Id like to pass on a lot of info to help out anyone i can so bare with me for the novel your about to read... For starters, obviously i removed the hermy, bagged it and got it out of the house. After that i sprayed the hell out of ALL the plants to help immobilize pollen on the plants. Later in the week when i could get a helping hand, we removed all the ladies from the tent, got some foam bleach cleaner, sprayed EVERYTHING in the tent down and rinsed EVERYTHING in the tent down with water. Cleaned everything up like im about to do surgery and before i put all the girls back in, i sprayed them down with R/O water again vigorously. @TheTHCwhisperer to answer your questions specifically, I'm not 100% sure the light leak was the issue, but I'm 99% sure... the hermy was closest to the light leak (which is now the inlet for my ac that blows under tables that the shorter/newer plants sit on so cold air isn't blowing on the growing medium) and now the tent is completely sealed. Locked myself in the tent and killed the light and i couldn't see my hand right in front of my eyes. Also, since a hermy pollinated OTHER plants, will those seeds be feminized? Or would the plant that pollenated its self have the feminized seeds? Or both? Next, i should note i have a wave of 8 plants about 5-6 weeks into flower. They are obviously toast but considering it was white widow (the hermy) that pollinated clones from a green crack strain im going to try and Let the clones mature for seeds and use them later. (I think i will call it crack widow. LOL!!) 2 weeks after that wave was put in i have another wave of 8 clones that are 3-4 weeks old. Too early to tell if seeds are being made but what i CAN say is so far, i Haven't seen ANY of the pistols turn red or shrivel up. (I read that a sign of pollination is that the pistols will turn red or die much earlier than normal once its pollinated) so that gives me some hope but i still feel like its too early to tell. Finally, i had an abundance of 1 foot tall clones so i actually have a wave of 16 clones in the tent that are 1-2 weeks old and THANKFULLY, none of them had any pistols showing until after everything was cleaned/rinsed off. Today, (2 days after cleaning) i spotted my first set of pistols so fingers crossed the big wave is safe. Needless to say, my tent is slammed packed with girls!! Again, hope this information can help the pros help me but also, hope it can help other people too. If theres anything i missed that may help you friends help me please don't hesitate to ask!
Well good job on the cleaning and handling what needed to be done. So often newer growers have trouble killing plants and taking the steps to insure everyone is as right as possible. Oh not saying you are a new grower because I don't know your background. Yes any seed coming from pollen from a female plant that has been herm'ed will be feminized. Itself other females no difference. If it was forced herm which can be done in a few ways by stress or spraying colloidal silver it will be feminized. The unicorn is if you get a male! Now those genetics can a be a prize for breeders I've been told. They say the genetics are strong if you get a male from feminized seeds. Dabled in breeding slightly but by no means am I breader. Just been around the block a few times.
SCORE!! this is actually such a relief... as soon as im comfortable and get my feet of the ground i want to set up another 4x8 tent and have 2 massive scrogs in them. Only problem with that is apparently the best way to scrog is from seed so that saves money and time in seeds! Yes i am a new grower. I have quite a bit of help which is the only reason i have even made it this far... but i have always had a keen interest in cannabis. I find it fascinating to learn about and very therapeutic to maintain. But nobody has ALL the answers. Except for the internet. So, here we are! For anyone keeping track of this thread as time goes on il try and keep updates about the other waves and whats happening. Just have to sit back and watch the grass grow now!.... Yeah.. i said it.
