Some folks rig side lighting because the two round CFL's aren't enough when your plants are big and heavy into the veggie stage. I considered it but decided on the upgrade kit with the hood that has 'three flat higher intensity' CFL's and a 24 inch arm/light stand. That worked fine for me without any side lighting that usually becomes a wireman's nightmare and ends up looking like a snake pit. I purchased some inexpensive mirrors form Home Depot and mounted them at a slight angle so they reflected the light back up to do double duty. Now I have buds all the way down to the planting deck. Try it you might like it.
