What up GC peeps! This is my first real grow (actually gunna put a little care in to it!) Grew a predominately male hermie before unfortunately. Left it out when we had a frost... It is beginning of spring now so should be ok temp wise, nights can get down in the 50's right now though... These are good bagseeds (if there is such a thing) germed um' last week and all 4 sprouted! Got em' in solo cups right now used a soldering iron to make holes in the bottoms. This is a backyard grow, but i'm wondering if I should leave em' out at night or bring em' in and put them under CFL at night til' they're a little bigger? I only have a 13w CFL that I can use so I don't know if it will even put out enough light for the 4 little sprouts to make a difference. I also have pots ready for transplant mixed WalMart soil, perlite, and 2 handfuls of "all natural" potting soil w/ worm castings, bat guano, and kelp meal in it. Mixed that up and watered it down. When should I transplant them? How many nodes of growth? Also I got some Vitamin B-1 Plant Starter that has Chelated Iron, Manganese, and Zinc in it. Should I use that when I transplant or wait to add it later? Any help would be appreciated! Here are some pics.. Stay high!
Everything sounds good bro, looks like you came prepared this time . Im a big fan of outdoor grows so i'll be sticking around for this one for sure. Sorry I cant really help on the transplant question, as I usually start off in big pots or no pots at all. Either way, the best of luck to you! BTW what did you end up doing with that hermie?
Thanks det0x. I ended up with like a gram of bud that's curing now. Smells ok. Other than that I froze some of the pollen (bananas) so I can get some seeds if I get a really good female from this grow. Chucked the rest, was gunna do bubble hash but it woulda been such a small bit I figured it was a waste of time. Not a whole lot of tricromosomes on it... Stay high
3 weeks along. Transplanted from solo cups to pots. Biggest plant is about 5 days ahead of the other 3. Topped and started LST on it today. Bought Fish Emulsion Fert 5-1-1 added half a capful and half a capful of trace elements to 1 gal of water. Gavem' first feed today. Some twist in first leaf set in a couple of them. Damaged one plant when I dropped it's pot and everything spilled out for about 5 seconds! (don't work on your plants loaded! ) But it's still looks fine. Luckily, root ball was intact! Let me know how you think they look! Some leaves are a little damaged, I think from 35mph winds the other day. They have been outside 24/7 since they were about 1 1/2 inches tall. Stay high
Very nice so far man, I am going to be watching this grow. You do plan on transplanting them again right? Those green pots looks still kind of small for a plant in a month or two
Yeah thanks guys! Hopefully they will preflower in these pots so I can transplant just the ladies! I have a feeling it's not going to be easy to transplant once I LST them more though. I guess i'll just have to wait for them to get a little root bound so the root ball is basically the entire green pot? I dunno... Stay high
your plants are coming along very nicely! I plan on topping soon as well, what did you use to top your plant?
Well it's been a month since the last update. I lost the biggest of the 4 plants to a Y chromosome BUT the other 3 all seem to be females! Woot! Some issues with white flys and their larva, but since they are monitored everyday I just pull the nest off and kill the larva by hand! Bastards! I've been putting them in at night and back out in the morn so they would show sex. Now I don't know whether to keep the cycle going or start leaving them outside 24/7 and let them veg more!? I transplanted into big ass pots so there will be no issues with them getting root bound. Feeding really light doses of "super bloom" 12-55-6 once a week. Let me know if you guys see anything that should be addressed. The fan leaves and stems have a purple hue to them. I don't know if it's just the strain or if it's a deficiency of some sort... Here are pics... The third plant, which is the biggest, was the slowest to show sex. But today I think I see one tricromosome on her! I'll know for sure in the next day or two!
Thanks! I fed Green Light "Super Bloom" 12-55-6 to help force flowering along with bring them inside garage so they get 12 hours of darkness. I was feeding Fish Emulsion 5-1-1 when they were straight veg. Both in really light doses. I checked my PH with test strip method (not super accurate) but it said PH was 7 so after pics I did a semi flush about a gallon of water each or less. To try and get PH in the 6's. I'm going to feed about half strength on thursday after they have time to adjust from the flush. Anyone know why fan leaves would have purple hue? I know this strain tends to have purple in the stems cuz I grew a hermie (unfortunately) at the end of winter and it was from the same bagseed as these. I'd appreciate any help on this from you guys! Stay High!
My plant has had some purple creepen up too. But its only in the stems of mine, and just in the base of the leaves. Its pretty normal, nothin to worry about. i think just caused by low temps or somethin.
After reading the Plant Abuse Chart: http://www.growfaq.net/growfaq/97.htm I realize it's probably a Phosphorus deficiency! Just fed em a larger dose of Super Bloom so we'll see if it helps! BTW - Third (largest) plant in pics above did end up being a female! Woot!
Another week and a half in the books. The 3 girls are lookin good! Chopped the bigger old fan leaves cuz they were lookin yellowish so they didn't seem to be helping. Still feeding Green Light Super Bloom at about 1/2 strength about once a week. How are they lookin?
I've been bringing the girls in at night to force flower, but i'm thinking i should start leaving them out and let them go back to veg. so they can get bigger. They kinda look like bonzai trees now and veg growth seems really slow! My questions are: 1) Will there be any neg effects from switching them back? Stress, etc... 2) Do I switch ferts. back to mainly nitrogen, use something balanced like 20-20-20, or stick with 12-55-6 that i've been feeding em? 3) Is there anything else i need to do? Thanks in advance for the help! Stay High!
now you know you have a female, if you want a decent harvest let it have natural outdoor hours, re-veg has been... since the dawn of man, it won't be stressed anymore then yourself right now, however much that is.... and switch back to 20-20-20
ok what you SHOULD do is bring them inside and grow them in a cupboard or something. (with cfls) OR - OR, listen; take it and hide it outside, water regularily and ferts. and dont fuck with it anymore because your gonna kill it, turn it hermy or its gonna be a male if you keep bringing it inside.
Thanks for the input guys! Jonster - Yeah they are about 3 weeks in to flower. I figured re-vegging would be fine. Just wanted to make sure! I might keep going with 12/12 on one of the three so I can get one early harvest! Twitcherz X - The pots are huge! There is no way in hell they will get root bound. If that's why you are asking size of pots and plants. Plants were topped and LST'd were so they are pretty short. HiTCher - They're getting plenty of sun light (like 8-10 hrs of direct sun) so there is no reason to change to indoor grow. And bringing them in at night so they get 12 hrs. of darkness isn't gunna hermie them or turn them male. All it's going to do is speed up harvest time, but it will definately limit size and yield.
