Herbal/plant extractions thread-anyone have info? done it?

Ok heres a interesting thread that I think that some of you will enjoy.

lately I've been very interested in herbal alternatives, and other ethobontical things that can fuck ya up-that are totally legal and don't show up on drug tests.

I've taken a great interest into extractions of plants/herbs as well.
And I've done extensive reading on the topic of extractions (extraction a chemical out of a plant/herb into a specific form using a specific process)
This chemical I speak of is usually the chemical that gets you high e.t.c. thats from that plant.

I've read tons of info on www.erowid.com and found out a huge amount of information.

I then ordered a amount of stuff off of a relible herbal/ethobonitcal shop online (www.iamshaman.com--great site!!)

Heres a gerenerl thing of what I ordered:
salvia 5X, and 10X extract.
Mimosa rootbark (contains dmt)
Siniuchi (I made a "water based" extraction and smoked it-got me pretty high)
woodrose seeds (contains lsa)
wormwood (contains abisnthum and thojone--thojone is the actual psycoative chemical in wormwood)

Anyhow I've done some reading lately on wormwood and the mimosa rootbark specifically, trying to figure out the best extraction method e.t.c for both of them.

I came accross a interesting read on erowid.com about a couple of guys that used methyl hydrive (methonal alcholol-buy in hardware store) to make a wormwood extract and then they proceeded to smoke it-and according to them if got them pretty fucked up (good way of course) and it was a very interesting read. I've curious of trying this extraction method on the wormwood myself.
Have any of you tried this? Or tried any sort of extraction of wormwood? If so what was your experiance? Good bad? What was it like? How did you make the extraction? What was your procedure-and ingredints list?


I also came across another read about another couple of guys that made a extract from mimosa rootbark and proceeded to smoke it (turned it into freebased dmt) and they had a good time as well.

And if anybody is interested in this idea of extraction and whatnot--reply to this thread with a question or whatever and I'll fill you in on what I've tried and done so far.

ya the herbal/plant route was what the treads about.
I think that that guy posted the codiene extraction becuase some guy on some other thread was curious e.t.c.

Anyhow--well the extraction process is usually just to bring out the specific chemical in that plant/herb and turn it into a form that you can well...get fucked up off of.
Doing extraction processes also produces a greater high-and yes sometimes it can make it a totally different level of being fucked up--say for example you take a substanse like wormwood (absinthum) and you make a wormwood extract using metyl hydride (methonal alchol) and the extract is going to be a gummy greenish substance--you let it dry, and your left with the extract---and you smoke this.
The smoking of the wormwood extract will be TOTALLY different-and defintly way more higher then say-drinking the absinthum drink or smoking the wormwood directly (just the non extracted plant)

Extraction processes can be used for almost any plant that contains a chemical that can fuck ya up--you can even extract pot--its called hash or hash oil.
Any substance out there you can extract a specific chemical out of it using a specific process.
Say for example the wormwood I told ya about.
And Mimosa Rootbark--you extract DMT freebased crystals out of it
And the same even goes with DXM cough syrup (in the DXM faq forum)--where you would get freebased DXM crystals--that you can actually smoke.

The chemicals used are harmful--yes---BUT when the extraction process is over all those harmful chemicals will be gone, either boiled or evaportated away.
All the chemicals do is help to bring out the specific ingredint in the substance--once the igredints brought out the chemical used is evaporated/boiled/removed from the mix and your left with the extract.
Thats the basic process.


Quick Question for everyone:
Is Naptha (the chemical) in Zippo lighter fluid, or do you have to actually go and buy Naptha? (usually found in a paint supply store for about $15...)

Aight I'm bumping this shit.
First of all I have a question.

I'm looking for a substance called methly Hydrate-or methonal alcholol (related to)

I'm also curious if rubbing alchool (isopropyl alcholol) will do the same as methonal or ethonal alcholol may do?

Someone PLEASE respond-I would prefer to use rubbing alcholol for my wormwood extraction then looking around for meythl hydrate at the hardware store.

I'm bouts to try out a dxm extraction soon (the one in the FAQ) and see how that goes.

And NOTE: the codeine extraction only works for pills that already have some sort of codeine in them--I did some reading on erowid.com about this.
For example if you have aspirin or some other pain medication that has any amount of codeine in it the extraction posted will work.--don't just extract random asprin and hope that you get codeine at the end becuase you won't.

I'll clarify what the different alchols are.
Theres Ethyl Alcholol--I.E. The alcholol that gets your drunk --everclear, vodka, e.t.c.

Rubbing Alcholol (isopropyl)--a cleaning agent e.t.c.

Metyl Alcholol--cleaning agent e.t.c.


So once agian--
Can I use Rubbing alcholol as the main solvent in plant extractions?
Basically I'm just to lazy to go out and find methyl Hydrate (methonal)--its kinda hard to find--or is it easy? Has Anyone ever bought Methonal alcholol? Or Methyl Hydrate? If so whats the brand name(s)? e.t.c.

EDIT: I just remembered that in vanilla extract (or mint extract/other) there is 95% straight ethyl alcholol.
I've actually gotten buzzed off of a little 1 ounce bottle of mint extract--basically the equivlent of 1 shot of everclear.

You see a solvent when used in extracts is basically a chemical that brings out the specific chemical you want--such as in the wormwood extract--you use a alchololic solvent (such as ethyonal or methonal alcholol) to bring out the Thojone--
In some things--like the wormwood for example to bring out the thojone--the psychoative in wormwood, you need to use alcholol--so basically speaking methonal, ethylnol, and isopropyl (rubbing) alcholol should all be cool to use when making an extract that requires alcholol as the solvent.

SAFTY NOTE: When making extracts that need alcholol in the extraction processes--it is always safer to use ethynol alcholol (everclear/vodka--whatever) becuase you can drink ethynol alcholol.
Rubbing alcholol and methonal alcholol are unsafe to drink--and very harmfull.
Of course in the extraction process the alcholol is evaporated/boiled away--but its always safer to use etyhnol alcholol (plus you will get a much cleaner product as well.)
Usually you would smoke the extract--but once agian you don't want to smoke unsafe solvents---of course its all removed in the extraction process--but once agian, ethynol alcholol is always the safest--and the cleanest method--and will produce the best quality extract.

Well after doing some extensive reading on what do to with wormwood besides making the "absinth drink" I've come up with a version of a wormwood extract that when smoked should work.

materials needed:
About 30G (1 ounce) of cut and sifted/ground up wormwood. You can order this off of iamshaman.com or other sites--or if your lucky enough you may live in an area where wormwood is quite pleantyful and growing wild. (such as the UK and the Middle of the USA)

DeNatured Alcholol. This is Ethynol (drinking alcholol) that has been poisned with a little bit of Methnoal alcholol--do NOT drink Denatured alcholol...the point of the methonal alcholol being added is so that kids won't drink the shit to get drunk--yet it has the same solvent properties (or very similar) to Ethynol alcholol.
NOTE: You can use Straight Ethynol alcholol--and if you can't get ahold of anything thats say--80%+ (or can't buy it--I.E. not 21 in the states or 19 or whatever in Canada e.t.c.) then try getting a extract--such as vanilla extract or mint extract that sometimes has up to 95% ethynal alcholol in it!! (they made the extract by taking ethynol alcholol and a little bit of the herb--just like the wormwood extract--thus its a liquid and the liquid is basically all alcholol...lol) And yes I have dranken a ounce of 95% alcholol content mint extract and got a big buzz--its the same as drinking a shot of everclear (except tastes like shit)

A plastic cup/tub/somthing to hold the shit in

A stove and a skillet or somthing to be able to eventually boil away the alcholol at the end.


ALTERNATE OPTIONS FOR ALCHOL>>>>
There is another option for alcholol besides straight etynol or methonal alcholol--you can use methyl hydrate and rubbing (isopropyl) alcholol instead--but I suggest going with the denatured alcholol--seeing how it has methonal and etynol alcholol in it, it will work perfectly for removing the thojone from the wormwood and make a great extract.


Quick background on what the extract is all about:
Wormwood is a plant material--traditionally it was made into a drink called absinthum--or absinth--the drink was made by fermenting the absinth in a vat with a strong etynol alcholol and other assorted herbs, and then drank--
The effects where a drunk like feeling yet with a very clean mind and a clear perception--and clean visuals--everything looked/felt clear. Some reports of people drinking absinth have caused them halluenations--such as van goe and other famous poets.
This extract is so that we will extract the main psychoactive out of the wormwood plant. That psychoactive is called thojone. Thojone comes out of the wormwood when it is soaked in alcholol.

This extract will allow us to extract the thojone (the main psychoactive) and smoke the actual extract--the effects will be higher and the onset shorter then the absinth drink would be--


Effects of smoked wormwood extract:
Effects can vary--but more then often the effects will produce a drunk/stoned feeling, combined with a very clear mindset. Visuals will be where everything looks perfect, clear, and clean.
Halluenations may occur--but it won't be anything big-like shrooms e.t.c.
And if you have any hallucenations its becuase of your brain chemistry more then likely. (becuase the wormwood extract is not really a "halluengentic material")


Steps to make extract:

1.) Take your wormwood and grind it the fuck up into a powder e.t.c. and put the powder/whatever into a plastic containor.

2.) Add the alcholol (whatever you choose to use--I'll use Denatured for this example--so I'll refer to Denatured alcholol from now on) into the the plastic containor that the wormwood is in.

3.) Mix the alcholol and wormwood up

4.) Let the mix stand for hours--or even a day--the longer the better probally. This stage can be optionoal--but if you want a potent mixture the alcholol and wormwood should ferment throughout the course of a while/a few hours--the longer the better becuase the thojones soluble in alcholol and by soaking for a while all the thojone will be brought out for sure.

5.) Strain the wormwood/alcholol mix through a cheese cloth or coffe filter into a skillet/pan e.t.c. Repeat this as many times as possible and squeeze the fuck out of the wormwood to make sure you get as much liquid out of the wormwood as possible. Discard the wormwood--(on the top of the cheese cloth/coffe filter)--but don't throw it out yet incase the procedure doesn't work e.t.c.--

6.) Slowly simmer the liquid (you should only be simmering liquid--maybe a couple of pieces of small plant material got through--not a big deal) until all the alcholol is gone (make sure its ALL gone) in other words make sure the remaning gunk doesn't smell like any alcholol--it will have its own smell to it. While you simmer away the liquid slowly you will see a layer forming (hopefully if everything was done right) eventually when all the liquid is gone the layer will look like a nasty looking green/brown or somthing colored goop pile--

7.) scrape the shit as much as possible off the pan/skiller e.t.c.

8.) Let it dry (doesn't have to be dry--but will be much easier to smoke and plus you can make sure that all the alcholol has evaporated if you dry it)

9.) Smoke it in a vaporization pipe (a tweakers pipe. I.E. a glass tube with a ball on the end)
A normal pipe can probally be used--but the flame may kill the chemicals--
Reports on erowid.com have all the guys using a normal pipe--but you can never go wrong with a vaporization pipe--
Don't smoke all of it in the vaporization pipe, just incase the vaporization pipe doesnt' work--then you can do it in a normal pipe.


I hope you enjoy--and if you are unsure about the extract working--just don't use all your wormwood.
I personally haven't tried it yet--I'm just going to fuck it and use all my wormwood. (just a ounce)
www.erowid.com has a couple extraction methods for wormwood as well.

NOTE: Just make sure to evaporate ALL the alcholol away--esspecially sense your using Nenatured alcholol. If you use only etyhnolol alcholol its not a big worry about evaporateing away ALL the alcholol (becuase ethnolol alcholol is safe and all you would be doing if it wasn't all evaporated when you smoke it is only smoking the vapor of booze--which can never harm ya )

And I made the DXM extract the other night (still have to smoke it)
AND I also made the wormwood extract.
I smoked it out of my pilo (refer to above post of what a pilo is) and it got me kinda stoned.

I then smoked the wormwood "hash" on top of some pot--and I got MAJOR doll house effects...like everything look spaced out and just cool---like looking into a doll house--how everything is greatly definded e.t.c. its called the "doll house effect"


We are making some freebased dxm soon (pure crystals) and smoking that shit soon--and then we are planning on making freebased dmt from the mimosa rootbark.



NOTE: I tried the above posted asprin "codeine" extraction--but I evaporated away all the water and shit after I filtered it through a coffee filter severl times and was left with actual crystals--I don't know what these crystals are--and I didn't smoke anything or try any of it.

I think the codeine extraction can only be applied to thigns with codenine in them to start with and it says on erowid.com to use warm/hot water--not cold water...
