Okay, so I started growing for the first time by myself. I briefly helped my exes’ brother-in-law with his crop. But I did not do much work. I started with some feminized autoflower White Widow. I’ve used Bergman’s Seedling Fert for the past week or two. Only giving it to them every couple of days. The soil I’m using is from a local nursery. The humidity ranges from 63% to 74% while the temperature ranges from 69 degrees to 77-78 degrees Fahrenheit. My front plant seems to be doing great. It’s growing, appears to be healthy and generally seems like it grows every 12 hours. However, the two back ones seem to be growing really slowly. I noticed ants and started using cinnamon-water solution to get rid of them. I haven’t seen them back at all and I checked for other pests but couldn’t find any but these little flies. I have used bug zapper to deter those from flying onto or eating these plants. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong and could really use some advice. I just purchased a pH tester off of amazon today and it should be here within the next 48 hours. If anyone could help me identify this problem, I’d greatly appreciate it!
Looks like theres a light problem or water problem the back ones have alot of signs of stress Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
How close is your light and what is it? Also how much water when are you watering Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
They look to be drowning. There not enough aeration in that soil. Add perlite, although I can’t direct you on how to go about without digging up your seedlings which might kill them. As for the nutes, any decent soil has plenty if not too much nutes for seedlings, so you’ll never really need that, but if you have the rest of the line, you’re in for a treat!
I’m using the Leaflit Grow Pod and the light it came with so I’d have to look into that in a moment for you. As for water levels. I don’t have a specific amount. But I generally put enough to the point where the area around it is wet but I’m afraid of overwatering it because the humidity is high. So I don’t soak it.
The website doesn’t tell me wattage but it does say it’s a High intensity Cree LED and that it’s full spectrum. It’s a company that specialized in Cannabis Horticulture, they’re based out of British Columbia. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Maybe, I’ve SEEN vermiculite, but I’ve never used it. The vermiculite I’ve seen was chunky and didn’t feel suited what I needed. I’m sure there’s finer vermiculite as well. But someone said you want the soil you’re growing in to look like a distant galaxy (black speckled with a lot of white). 70/30. I go 60/40 soil/perlite personally. But no boss, doesn’t look like nearly enough aeration in your soil. The root zone needs oxygen. Roots can actually rot from being to moist all of the time. They need to dry out a good bit. Aeration helps that. That’s why I go to perlite. It doesn’t hold nearly as much water as the soil so the medium as a whole dries faster.
The npk ratios were unlike anything I compared it to, but I’m not disappointed in the line. At all. I’m actually about to order two sets of the big kits until I get the stones to give someone else a shot. But since running out of the flower cycle powder I’ve found ways to keep chugging along so we’ll see. But yeah, for my first time, I don’t have a complaint with their nutrients. I hated ilgm at one point lmfao. Not anymore. They’re the shit, just sucks you gotta order so many seeds at once.
I appreciate the input. I’m gonna try and transplant because I have more 2 gallon fabric pots. If it dies, it dies at this point since I’ll have to start over if it dies from being in the soil that’s too moist. I started up both fans (carbon filtered fans for the win!) instead of just having the one on, so maybe the humidity will drop and the soils will dry out. Once that happens, I will definitely try transplanting and then rehabilitating the little girl. I’ll add more vermiculite cos I bought a big bag of it. Like I said, the bottom plant looks pretty healthy, it’s a little green in places. But overall seems okay. The top right also seems to be yellowing. So I’m gonna try rehabilitating that one as well. Yeah, I got it through ILGM and the kit I got was like $160, came with 20 seeds, fertilizer for all grow stages and the root control, mold control and bug zapper. I’m super happy with their products thus far. Also, when do you think I should start topping the healthier one? When she starts growing her third set of multipoint leaves? Dosent vermeculite hold moisture like when doing jars for certain things. Perlite is a diffrent thing allows for more oxygen and better drainage.
From what I understand it holds more water but it only has slightly less aeration. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
If that is true then we do not want to use it. Most soil has sphagnum moss, peat moss, maybe coco coir, etc. that holds water in the soil. So we don’t want to add anything else that’ll hold water, we want to add something that will not hold much water while being neutral at the same time. You don’t want something that’s going to suck up and hold your water/nutrients (vermiculite as you described it to me), you want something that going to break up the soil and not affect much of anything else.
Hey, man! Had a quick question that maybe you could answer. Would it be possible that nitrogen toxicity is the problem? I dropped the humidity down and it seems to be drying out fairly quickly. I will give it another 24 hours. Hopefully the leaves start growing quicker than they were. I’ve noticed that the leaves in the top right plant are yellowing and was wondering what you think that could be causing that? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
No, nitrogen toxicity isn’t the culprit, although I’d need to see the next set of leaves to be sure. The thing about overwatering is that the symptoms can be misleading and point in other directions. But mostly nitrogen. Your plants are just overwatered. You should let them dry out now or it could have a direct impact on your harvest. I KNOW ILGM’s WW autos are tanks, especially compared to my Mephisto autos. But this time is the most crucial, you need those plants to get big fast. So you cannot water them for a few days. They’re gotta dry or you’ll be stuck with 1 oz at best at the end of the day (overwatering slows down new growth, limiting bud sites, thusly Chiba) with autos time is the enemy the first 30 days because you can believe they’ll start flowering in that time. And then what ya see is what ya get. No new growth. Me, I didn’t know my ilgm white widows were autos and put them through heavy training. Transplants, heavy defoliation from week 3, everything. Mainlining all that, they can take it all. But overwatering, no one can survive that whole. As for humidity, lowering it (lowering the amount of water in the air) will cause everything to dry out faster. Soil, puddles of water, everything. But with the exception of bud rot, I haven’t seen any I’ll affects from humidity. Hi or lo.
Well, the soil is drying in the pots now. I had to mix another soil in with the base soil I got from the local nursery and I might have accidentally added self feeding soil (top left only). Which is why I was thinking possible nitrogen toxicity. The top right plant seems to be evening out. The new leaves are forming with no yellow spots or yellowing whatsoever... Yet anyway. The front plant seems to be tripping heavy and is starting to really grow fast. the next picture I’m attaching is the one where the soil is drying out fast and the leaves are greening on the new set of leaves on this one. Definitely looks like you need perlite. Cannabis struggles in soils that are like mud. Biggest one looks kinda stretched, but idk, could be genetics.
