what size of a closet do i need for 4 nice size plants 72 high 26 wide 18 deep? its metal. will i be able to put a light in the SAFELY ?
that will be good for 2 plants... but then again all depends on what light you use, if good HID lighting only 2 plants with Flourescents you can go 4 plants as they wount grow as big under that lighting.
Is that the size of the plants or closet? Cause if thats the plant size your going to need a pretty big cabinent...

A hydro kit is not worth the money building your own however is bubblebucket tut . Hps is usually used for flowering because it has a red spectrum wich is better for flowering mhs have a blue spectrum wich is better for veg but floros can be used for veg as well. And there is no flower and grow only flower and veg flowering happens under a 12/12 light cycle veg is 16/8 to 24/7 light cycle.
get the hps from ebay. Look around on ebay you'll find 400 HPS lights with conversion bulb you'll be able to get it under $150 usd. If that is the cab size (72x26x18) you'll need to make sure the hood/reflector is widder than 17.5". A good cool air intake and a exhaust fan.
Chimera i think you mean narrower than 17.5" since its only 18" deep. But yea, my closet is practically the same size. its about 2' x 4.5' which isnt big at all. But i managed to fit 8 plants in there and they all seem to be doing well. If you want to buy a 400 watt switchable with the reflector, im willing to sell it for 300. Its only 1 month old and i have the original packaging that i can send it out in so you'll get it in brand new condition. It runs flawlessly and will fit in ur grow seamlessly as well.
