  1. Hey guys. So I want to make a soiless mix that i can treat like soil and get the results of hydro. How does this sound to you soiless growers out there.

    Sunshine Mix #4 (5 gallons)
Two heaping handfulls of worm castings
and a generous amount of peralite

How can I modify this to make is as light as possible (easy root growth), while still retaining water, so i don't have to water every day.

I would be ok with watering every other day if I had to. I just want to get some fast growth here and i've read root aeration is key.

  2. maybe some dolomite lime?

what exactly does it do for soiless mixes.

  3. Lime is used for ph adjustment mixing it in with the soil holds the ph at 7.0 even after ferts are used.

  4. thanks for the tip. i'll be sure to add some to my mix!

  5. Read up on how much to use as I know you have to let the soil rest for a week or so..

Also you should know that Sunshine #4 already has dolomite lime in it.

Ingredients: Canadian sphagnum peat moss, coarse grade perlite, gypsum, dolomitic lime and Sun Gro's long-lasting wetting agent.

I think your good out of the bag with some perlite, and the worm castings.

  6. sounds awesome. well i'll be trying this asap in a smart pot and side by side it with my FFOF in plastic pots and it'll be interesting to compare yeild.
