Help with Small 150w HPS box

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by AstronomyDomine, Jan 25, 2007.

  1. Okay, so I'm pretty new at this. I've been reading these boards for months now, and I've finally begun gathering my equipment, here's what I have:
    150w HPS Light
    Mylar Foil
    Ozonizer
    (2) 120mm Computer Fans

    Soldering Iron
    Extension Cords

And I'm going to Wal*Mart later today to pick up the actual box (probably a Rubbermaid Tub)

Is there anything I'm missing? How should I set this up?

I was going to buy seeds buy I met this guy who has some that He'll give me, he said they're "hydro". I wasn't aware there was a strain called "hydro". Oh well. Should I go with these free seeds or just buy some lowryder or power stout?

Also, should I SCRoG this? How would i fasten the chiken wire?

  2. your going to need a small oscilating fan.

Are you going to grow this all in a rubermaid tub??? or is that your res for the hydro system? HID light + rubbermaid tub = fire. think about getting a small cab from walmart while you are there, or make one.

    good luck

  3. if you want this to be the best it can be for the first time your should buy some quality seeds , i did two grows with sorry genetics my first couple of times, its well worth the money.

  4. even though you've read the boards, it sounds like you need to plan this out a little better. I agree, 1 tupperware tub will not be a good idea to enclose an entire grow operation.

your high output hps light is going to create a LOT of heat, even at 150watts, and as it sounds like you do not have a lot of space with which to work, you'll need to have an exhaust fan. Those computer fans won't be good enough. It's a pain in the ass but hey, that's what we got.

Take a look at some of the grow spaces/setups that are posted here at grasscity. I know you said you have, but it just doesn't seem like you'd have such an open-ended question if you REALLY had taken a good look at those posts.

Half the battle in making the room is measuring correctly. measure measure and measure your space again. (you didnt even included ANY measurments in this post). Again, a key goal of this planning is to make sure you can exhaust the air in the room. In small spaces especially, too much heat is the main problem. If you can't keep the temperature under 90 degrees F (and that's pushing it), you may as well scrap the crop.

So yeah, then we can help you better.

  5. I think this is going to be hard to do for a first time grower. For not that much more you could buy a pre-fab cabinet at the hardware store.

SCROG's aren't a good idea for a seed grow. Some of them will be male and you need to get rid of them. For a SCROG you really need female clones.

  6. a computer fan in a cool tube will keep a 150 cool enough to touch with your fingers. I have done it. you are going to need some exhaust, and i would get a cab from lowes or wherever if your not good with wood.

  7. Wal mart, but you have to get lucky.

  8. I was thinkin about doin a similar thing. especially using rubbermaid containers. I was also thinkin about using a 250w HPS but I dont know what the heat issue would be like.

anyway keep me posted or keep this thread updated and GOOD LUCK :)

  9. i actually made a grow cab out of a rubbermaid using CFL's, but scrapped the idea after i realized i didn't have enough light, and a new space became available! :D

as long as you can keep the light cool you shouldn't have a problem. (except u might be short on reservoir space and might have to keep it down to one plant.)

let me know how it goes!

    rubbermaid tub

    new closet!
