New to growing methods and giving the mainline a try on one of my plants.... question.. I’m getting ready to make my first top cut, do I cut everything else under that node
Keep any fan leaves for now, but you can cut the stems emerging from below your cut point that you won't be keeping. Your fan leaves are fueling growth and your plants are still small, so they need all the food factories they can get right now. This link is really helpful. Thank you! Am I able to mainline one plant and straight LST the other without having to have my lights at different heights? I’m in a 2x4 area with a 5 foot height limit, I’m trying to get the best out of my area. I don’t know anything about LST or anything I’m a new grower on my first grow . And I’ve seen that mainlining has the tall buds rather than a WIDE and flat canopy . I’m growing with 2 QB96s
Hard to answer that question. If you've got two boards though, seems like you're setup perfectly to adjust them independently, unless they're both on the same heatsink. Sent from my SM-G975U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I have a frame built so they’re attached to that , maybe I’ll just LST these 2 plants and see how that goes and then mainline next grow. This is my first grow so it’s all a learning experience for me
Gotchya. I'm on my first grow as well, week 4 of flower, so I'm still learning also. I'd treat them both the same this go round, one way or the other. It's hard enough to deal with height differences just within different phenotypes, let alone different training techniques. I sprouted bag seeds and somehow I got one giant, one medium sized, and one is miniature I didn't mainline, btw, I just read about it quite a bit. Yeah I’ve done a bunch of reading on mainline also , so yeah I’ll be sticking with straight up LST this grow
Generally easier to have both plants doing the same thing. Either both being LST or both mainlined. However you can do both if you wanted to it’s just a bit harder because of your limited space. when you mainline you are also using LST to train the manifold to the proper shape and height. During that time you could also LST your other plant to the same canopy height but things will get tricky because of the vegetative growth will be different for the two methods. Basically you might have trouble keeping the LST only plant in check with the extra veg time.
Yeah I was going to try juggling both methods but I’ll probably stick with LST only since it’s my first grow
