So I've been reading around for a few hours now about growing, specifically lighting, since I know most everything other than it. In realizing im no expert I just wanted to ask you all for help in clarifing or correcting me. K, so I found that plants only grow in the red and blue light spectrums, though the violet(black light) will help to produce more THC, interesting.. first question, since im sure i just wasnt looking hard enough, but by red light, does that mean i could use a 'heat lamp' like one would use for a reptile? and then what about blue?.. it has nothing to do with these painted bulbs i see at the hardware store right?...is it true that the bulbs needed dont screw into a normal house electrical socket? what do I have to do about that? Its probably ridiculous for me to think, but I dont want to spend much more than $50CND..Only planning on 1 or 2 plants..I know im a noob/tool..but just would like a bit of help in the field..Thank You
You don't want to use a heat lamp. The light spectrum difference is when you drive down the road at night and you see one street light that looks whitish blue, and another that looks orange redish, thats the spectrum difference. You can use a standard flourecent bulb to grow most vegetables. 50 to 80 watts per sq. ft. of growing space is good, anything less than that means you have to grow less to get any decent results.
k..well i have a single flurescent tube light in my basement..about 7.5 feet from the floor, has a removable semi-see-through cover, would that do the trick? or would the light have to be within a few inches of the plant?
The lights you need emit blue spectrum for veg and red spectrum for flower, but they are not blue and red lights. Your grow room won't look like the roof of a police car. Best lighting is high intensity discharge, specifically metal halide (MH) for veg and high pressure sodium (HPS) for flower. Otherwise fluoros, either tubes or CFLs depending on your space and size. Fluoros labeled "daylight" are in the blue spectrum for veg and those labeled "warm" or "soft" are in the red spectrum for flower.
ok..just so im not assuming, fluoros is fluorescent right..and so im gonna need 2 self sustaining bulbs? and they run at the same time or in intervals?
k so ive found numerous bulbs in the red spectrum..or atleast i believe so..heres some links, if you could let me know if they will do, likely need multiples of 2.. but even if they are the right thing.. http://http://www.homedepot.ca/weba...ode+matchall&recN=112595&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/p...older_id=1408474396672801&bmUID=1176919801199 http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/p...older_id=1408474396672801&bmUID=1176919801205 http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/p...older_id=1408474396672801&bmUID=1176919801195 http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/p...older_id=1408474396672801&bmUID=1176920520320
