i have been going in circles and nuts trying to figure out how to grow sativas in my 4.4' X 4.5' closet. i already bought kali mist beans as well as mixed sativa, pure power plant & haze skunk. i already knew that sativas aren't practical for regular growing, but that they're doable if you SCROG them. i planned out my room with nine 1.5' X 1.5' SCROG tables only to be told "it won't work, the plants will outgrow the table in a month" and that i should stick to commercial strains which was EXACTLY the news i didn't want to hear because my ENTIRE reason for growing indoors is to FINALLY smoke sativas again after despising indicrap for the past 20+ years! i'd really hate to think i wasted nearly $200 on sativa strains i can't actually grow and breed. just now i ran across ANOTHER person who want to grow KM indoors too. i'm asking you experts, how can it be done? "it can't" is NOT an option. there HAS TO be a way. i didn't get any answers when i suggested pruning the daylights out of the sativas in the 1.5' square tables i planned or folding over until they flower. now, i'm actually considering abandoning my closet plan and giving my entire bedroom over to growing because i want freakin' sativas! LOL any help to us wannabe kali mist growers would be appreciated. in particular, i'd like to know the bare minimum size a scrog table would need to be to flower a sativa. i think i'll end up building an huge (10'?) circle of scrog tables underneath 250w MH & HPS lights just so i don't have to give up on my dream. it will cost me alot more than i wanted to spend after i get a light mover and build a frame to hold it up, but i want sativas. thanks in advance to anyone that has practical solutions and advice.
If you have a total of 250w I don't think you have anything to worry about with your sativa's just keep them under the screen until like the 3rd week of flower.. then as they grow up throw some netting over them.. They do love to just keep on stretching but it is posible to contain them.. and in doing that you can use they're stretch to your advantage as you fill up the entire canopy and make best use of your light. I wouldn't recomment putting a light mover on 250w of light and by no means lighting 10' of canopy with it.. I'd keep your closet idea, and scrog those babies... You said someone told you they would outgrow the screen? the only way for a scroging plant to outgrow the screen is for the scroger to let it... As long as you push it back.. it'll stay under the screen...
just to show you real quick here is a pic of a scrog I had in my room a few months ago .. It was half of a 600w's canopy and what held back for about 3 weeks.. I kinda burnt it there at the end but just ignore that... eheheh btw.. that is super silver haze.. a pretty sativa dominant plant.. As you can see .. even if you have 4.5 feet of height you can still have like 2-3 feet from the base of the roots to the top of the canopy at finish.. that leaves you about 1 and a half feet.. 6 inches for your hood and 12 inches of play room to move up and down..
sorry ,its pretty much is a waste of time,no mater if you can stop them streching you will get light fluffy buds
as above get a dominant strain ,theres no way you can grow buds like that indoors with pure sativa i knew some one years ago who grew sativa in the sun but inside a conservatory, massive plants suposidly panama red which produced little sticky fluffy buds what a dissapointment
see, THAT's a big scrog table in the pic you showed. THIS is what i originally posted for my 4.5' X 4.5' closet http://pokernaut.myphotoalbum.com/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album01&id=0_500w_closet_OUTLINED the green squares are 9 SCROG tables each about 1.5' X 1.5' and that was the plan that got shot down. i want 9 SCROG tables because i have 10 varieties that i wanted to grow and breed. the person in the other thread basically said that such small tables are IMPOSSIBLE with sativas and i never got a reply when i asked about pruning back or overlapping. i'm NOT growing for cash. i'm not worried about maximum yield at all. i just wanted to flower EVERYTHING i have, and was looking into doubling up on most of the tables with a few other varieties. it seems like EVERY way i try to figure out how to grow sativas indoors gets shot down. i'd bee really whizzed to find out i wasted all that money on kali mist beans. i DESPISE indicas. that's my whole motivation for wanting to grow to begin with. for what it's worth, these are the strains i have now C99 splash which was my intended male breeder for everything (A11g X lien huanh) X A11g kali mist haze skunk pure power plant mixed sativa SADP skunk probably 0% viable if they're like my last batch of freebies bubblicious california orange bud & troublemaker freebies but i wanted to add a few more strains too burmese malawi gold senor garcia blueberry & buddha's sister, cherrybomb or black russian all i wanted was to get a bunch of C99 crosses & try a variety of flavors and then cross all of them (except the bagseed) with a kali mist male next time around the light mover plan would have actually been 500w (250 ea) to cover enough space to do half a dozen larger tables for the sativas and maybe grow the compact strains SOG style. it's breaking my heart that my dream is impossible no matter WHAT i try to do. outdoor growing isn't practical either as i'm miles away from a possible site with no car. is there no trick to just get some bud out of a sativa indoors eg. combining SCROG with an instantly flowered cutting?
I take it back.,. dedicate the bedroom.. it'll be so much more pleasant to grow in an area you can work with.. small spaces suck.. specially with all those strains! If you've got an extra room.. use it..
No matter what mj strain they are they all flower on 12/12 (when they are mature enough, then clone em) My train wreck is spose to take 60 days to show from seed, but no one has seen a seed of pure TW in 20 years ( im 21 ) so... Just grow your seeds and clone when you know what is what (the sex! then you know they are ready to flower). then u can flower em at any size and still be manageable most sativas will TRIPLE IN SIZE!! so watch out and good luck and get some ladys! space wasn't going to be an issue in my original setup as all of the scrog tables would be on wheels. i REALLY took to that idea when i heard someone bring it up in another forum. it solves a BUNCH of problems. it makes for easy access to plants which is great for me as i have back problems as well as letting growers stagger their grows with strains that mature at different rates and even rotate the plants so they all get the same lighting like they would with a light mover. i'm not keen on converting my bedroom, but if THAT'S what it would take to get some kali mist etc. head stash, then i'd do it. besides, i'm dying to cross C99 with kali mist! i think that would be a killer cross. eventually, i'd just stick with 2-4 favorite strains and grow those. i plan on giving anything i can't smoke away. i'm only concerned with quality, not quantity. i already KNOW that sativas like to stretch like crazy, but my thinking is, i don't need the entire plant. i'm not growing for yield at all. if i could just get, say half an ounce worth of seeded bud from each of my strains, that would be plenty until the next round. THAT'S why i thought that small SCROG tables could be doable if not ideal. WHATEVER i could get out of that space from the sativas would be good enough. just a few buds and a couple hundred seeds is all i really want from the pure and nearly pure sativas. all of the compact hybrids would give me my "yield". is it possible to FORCE a sativa to grow no larger than a small scrog table with vigerous pruning & training etc. or would that keep the plant from being able to make buds? just a few buds is all i'm asking for here! LOL
k dude, i have a Kush that is like 100% Sativa and I bud a 4X4 closet with a 400 hps and i just top the shit out of em in veg, but the problem i get is that the fuckin branches wanna get so damn wide... so, top like hell, then just bend where nessisary. It can be done.
UH... actually kush is 100% indica http://www.cannabismarijuana.com/thai-nl-hawaiian.html but i'm thinking i might go ahead and TRY to force the larger plants into smaller spaces and just prune the excess and deal with whatever i get out of it. i should go back and re-learn pruning techniques. too bad i don't have that awesome grow guide i used to in the 80s. it covered EVERYTHING from breeding to soil formulation better than my other two guides combined. there are a couple of online grow guides. i really need to bone up on SCROGging and pruning as well as forced flowering. i just refuse to accept defeat.
OK... here's another idea. i've reconsidered 1. adding more lighting to the room so it's 400w X 400w now 2. growing SOG instead of SCROG. i'd planed on filling the room with 25 10.5" pots in 5 X 5 rows of cloned plants 3. i'm considering training the 4 remaining sativa dominant strains on the sides of the wall and both cloning them and topping them to cut down on their size here's a pic of my new room plan http://pokernaut.myphotoalbum.com/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album01&id=3D_closet the black grids on the side walls would be trellises for training kali mist, haze skunk, pure power plant & mixed sativa which i wanted to cross with a C99 male to try and bring their size down and gain some of C99's other great traits. the transparent brown triangle on the right is a shelf and would be part of the rigging for the lights and the stand for my carbon scrubber. how about now? between cloning, topping and giving each of the four sativas about 2'w X 3-4'h of vertical training each with extra pruning if needed and twice the lighting, could i get some sativa bud NOW? i thought about training on the back wall too, but i'm guessing that the grow lights project more light to the sides than top & bottom. is THIS plan doable?
nothing? please help! please oh please oh please i'm BEGGING YOU! the whole reason i want to grow is so i DON'T have to settle for evil indicas anymore. for what it's worth, none of the strains i want to grow are even of the 12 week variety. i have C99 splash 49 - 56 days A11g X lien huanh (i'm guessing about 56 - 63 days) cali-o 56 - 60 days bubblicious 56 - 63 days pure power plant 56 days haze skunk 56 - 84 days & likely the largest strain in my collection mixed sativa (? might be a true giant) kali mist 70-90 days OK... this one's going to be big but can't i get away with cloning, cropping & training it in the space? i'd even give up an entire wall for this one and it cost me $100. it's really driving me nuts that no-one can offer me a workable solution here. and am considering including big bud 46 - 56 days blue mystic 56 - 63 days SADP skunk 56 - 70 days if these freebie pop burmese 63 days
How about Arjan's #3? By greenhouse seeds it looks like a great almost 100% sativa for an indoor grow
i'd LOVE to try some arjan's haze, but 1. it's too expensive & 2. i already have a bunch of other strains in my collection that i'd planned on growing, kali mist in particular. i need help in finding techniques that will make my $100 kali mist beans something besides useless trophies. i had planned on SCROGging it from the beginning as i thought that would make it doable only to find i apparently wasted my money now that i'm finally ready to stop jerking off to the dream of growing and start buying lights etc.
if you're doing the bedroom approach hyou have plenty of room. if not you could put 1 plant at a tiem in that closet and train the hell out of it?
i just posted that in your "kali mist" under seed bank. ill let you know how it works out for me. this is my first grow and didn't predict that sativa stretch. The problem i will have soon is to figure out a way to bend/break the main colas to not run into the light.
I got 2 Kali Mist that are 11 days into flowering(they are both a foot tall now) in my 18 gallon rubbermaid setup pretty much like redgreenerys tub setup on icmag. I plan to let the fill out and then start training them so I can reduce the height a bit and get light to the side of the branches. The plants will grow to their environment, I keep them in a 1 gallon pot and that will restrict height pretty good on it's own. OH i topped them using the FIM technique as well that helps in keeping them more bushy.
that's what i've been thinking all along, that if you combine all of the techniques to keep their size down, plants that are more sativa dominant like kali mist & haze skunk would be doable. between cloning them to start, training them on a side wall & topping and pruning them as necessary, it should be possible to get SOMETHING out of them. it's just the thread seemed to go dead after everyone seemed to say, just give it up, it ain't gonna happen like i said, i'm not out for top yield or anything, just to get some tasty kali mist buds and to use C99 to bring all the big plants' size down and make them trippier. i'm glad to hear that a few of you are daring to do sativas indoors even if the general indica worshipping public avoids them like the plague. turning my bedroom into a grow room is ONLY an absolute last resort and would have to wait until after my first harvest which was supposed to be a breeding one as i only have 3 C99 splash beans left and don't want to have to create ANOTHER space for mothers & fathers in vegetative too. once in a year or so my landlord pops by for inspections and tearing down a big light mover rack & false walls in my bedroom would be a pain. i really want to do this in my closet where i have an extra degree of stealth. an can build a light rack that's easier to break down and conceal. here's to hoping YOUR kali mist grow yields some of those tasty buds-o-happiness. keep the sativa faith my brothers!
Man just do it. Growing is a complete learning process. It seems you have read online so if i were you id jump to Barnes and Noble and read a couple books on sativas and training and you'll be fine. The growing population online i have found have many people who sometimes ask to many questions. It's possible to read read read and once you have spent all your time doing this the only questions you should come up with are questions that have not yet been ask. I am growing Kali Mist because i heard it was good from 3 growers i know who don't use the internet. Pretty much i'm saying you'll be fine, just use your instinct since i'm assuming this isn't your first grow, and just because you don't see it on grasscity.com doesn't mean people aren't doing it. Peace, -Thai
