Hello this is my first grow and just an experimental stage, if goes well I could look into seed banks and start there. This is entirely for personal use and am willing to dedicate myself into doing this (what can I say? I'm in love with funk). Anyway it's just a few weeks old (will upload pictures later), not sure if in the seedling or vegetative stage I have 2 plants one is a week or two older than the other, they are both still small in size I am giving it direct sunlight outside, due to the fact I'm going to be moving in about a month so I don't want anybody's disturbance. I know I could use CFLs for the veg stage, but not sure how many watts, what kind, or how many for 2 plants in one pot. I need as much help as I can get. I need info on what nutrients to use, what lighting and how many and what to do about the humidity, O2 and CO2 problems and anything else that I might be missing. But the one part that makes me scratch my head like a damn monkey is the flowering stage. Note that I'm short on money and cannot afford expensive HPS, HID, or LED lighting and nobody is explaining this part simply for beginners. So can some shed some light for this poor confused man (please :p).

  2. Yes read and read some more and research amd research more.to many people on here want everyone to spoon feed them about growing. Google is a good place to find what u want to know.

  3. I'm not trying to be spoonfed, this is a bit expensive and time taking to be making mistakes and fucking up my grow, I'm going crazy researching this stuff and still being confused. I guess I'm someone that learns from experience and since everybody in my so called "city" is sketchy as fuck, I have no one to help me. I 'm considering myself to be lucky to have even made it this far without fucking up too much. I'm wanting to learn to grow because I love doing it, I'm confused so I expect people to point me in the right direction, that's what I'm here for. I'm wanting to learn to grow myself so I wouldn't have to depend on anyone and possibly get robbed (the people here are extremely sketchy). I'm not trying to sound like a dick, but it's frustrating when I'm looking for answers and all I get is people telling me to take my business elsewhere.

  4. You shouldnt be growing two plants in one pot anyway .. Your already fucking up badly. Move them into separate pots asap

  5. first thing you need to do is repot your plants in seperate containers. next would be to invest in lights, if you go cfl you will need at least fifty watts a sq ft get bulbs with a kelvin rating of 6500 for veg and 2700 for flower. pay attention to the actual watts listed and not the equivalent watts. y adapters and reflective domes for better coverage. check out kamels cfl guide for the low down. you will also need a fan to circulate and bring fresh air in. you will want enough cfm to replace the air every five minutes. chep is right though a serious reading and study session is in order, i know there is alot of info out there that is conflicting but if you do enough reading you can pretty well figure it out and weed out(no pun intended) the misinformation you might of read. the growers on this site are very helpful but due to the large amount of threads like yours they see everyday sarcastic responses and getting told to read more is just the way it goes. i was told the same thing. dont take offense, they mean well.

  6. Ok I will repot, but just fyi it's a bigass pot mean't for a mini palm tree, but it died so i replanted with MJ and surprisingly grew very well. Anyway what lights were did you have in mind? If it's just the lights, I could invest in 240w LEDs instead of the HIDs or HPSs with the ballasts and everything to jack the price up, would the 240w LEDs be enough to flower 2 or 3 plants? Because I'm also planning to order the Jock Horror Autoflower from Nirvana with needs a lot of light I think because it's mostly Sativa, but correct me if I'm wrong. I could also put a big bucket of water to humidify the place, if that could work, I read somewhere here that's a cheap alternative. Now if I spend all of the money for the seeds + lights, I wouldn't have enough money to invest in proper ventilation so what would you recommend for that? All I have for a breeze is just an old school rotating fan which I heard works also as a cheap alternative. And as for the growers, no harm no foul right? :p

  7. You either invest in doing it right or just tryo to fudge it. If you think of the investment as lights OR ventilation then you need to look at it as one unit, the more dialed in everything is the better.

The LED option makes temps less of an issue BUT you still need to properly vent the room and circulate air. And LED's require careful research too or you'll find yourself with a POS that cost you your firstborn. You can get cheap HPS light setups online without spending an arm and a leg, and yeah you'll have to vent them but that's part of the program.

One thing that in my mind frustrates a lot of people on here is people starting a help thread and begin like "how can I harvest sticky sexy goodness with a walmart screw cfl and miracle gro?" If you want bud that's worth it, you gotta invest.

And also fucking up is how you learn, those first couple of cycles when you have spindly little shit-bud is even more motivation to get better, at least for me.

Check the sticky threads, there are guides for CFL's and everything else, but just know that the bottom line is you gotta spend money to make nice buddy.

  8. I'll see if I can't help and point you in the right direction.

First of all, until you have your environment set up and have had a couple of successful runs with bag seeds, don't buy from a seedbank. 10 seeds can easily cost you over $100 depending on where you buy, and that money would be flushed straight down the toilet if you don't know what you're doing and your sprouts don't survive. Stick to bagseeds until you are comfortable.

I understand your position about moving perfectly well, been there myself. Natural sunlight is, of course, the best thing for any plant and it will hold you over for now. However, the nights are getting longer which is going to trigger your plants to flower if you don't get them set up inside soon. In addition to that, you absolutely can not hide the smell of a flowering cannabis plant outside. You didn't mention where you were located so I'll assume you're in the states in a non-legal state. If that's the case you need to get your plants set up inside very quickly. It may be hard to hear but if you are not financially able to undertake this, then please cut your grow short and wait until you are able to afford it. You absolutely can not cheap out on your ventilation and odor elimination if you are in a non-legal state and don't want to get caught. It's a necessity to filter that smelly air.

As to flouroescents: You want either the spiral CFL bulbs, and/or a T5/T8 shoplight. Most around here will tell you that you "need" a high-output T5 "grow light" if you go that route, but it's nonsense. Regular old cheap shoplights will work just fine. If you get the spiral CFL type bulbs, it will be up to you to figure out how best to set them up.

Either way, you're going to need around 200 watts at the VERY LEAST in order to grow two plants out, and that's only for vegetative growth. That could mean as many as 8-10 24-watt spiral CFL bulbs. There's some logistics there you would need to work out.

Might I recommend something like this? http://htgsupply.com/Product-FLORALUX-250-watt-High-Pressure-Sodium-Grow-Light.asp

That's a 250 watt High Pressure Sodium lamp. The ballast is enclosed so you don't have to have a separate box and run cords everywhere. Add in some rope hangers and you're looking at around $160.

Combine that with something like this: http://htgsupply.com/Product-A-GrowBright-4in-Inline-Fan-&-Carbon-Filter-Combo.asp

That's an inline fan and carbon filter combo. Add a speed controller for $20 and another $10 or so for ducting, and you're at about $150.

That's around $300 plus shipping. That will be enough to completely cover you on lighting, ventilation, and odor control for two plants for an entire grow cycle. The filter would need to be replaced after around two years of use, as well as the bulb.

These products would most likely be "mandatory" for a successful grow. You could use compact flourescent bulbs for your entire grow, but you would probably spend close to the same amount for those as you would for the 250 watt HPS set up, and the 250 watt HPS setup is going to give you all-around better development and final yield.

Like I said, if this is too expensive right now then you might be better off waiting until you can afford it. Keep in mind that in order for that fan/filter combo to effectively neutralize odors it will have to be in an enclosed, mostly sealed space. This is where research and planning comes into play. You need to exhaust the hot, humid air away from the grow area and you need to bring in fresh, cool air. How you do that is completely up to you.

Simply setting up a window air conditioner in the same room your grow box is in works well for small-scale grows. Note that you definitely want any air that the AC cycles to be clean (not smelly), so it should not be in contact with unscrubbed grow-box air.

It does take quite a while to get all the basics down, especially if you haven't grown much of anything before. And it does cost a bit to get set up. On the bright side, the experience you gain is priceless and much of the cost in growing is in the initial set up; maintenance of your setup is pretty cheap. A bulb here, some soil there, etc.

    This post is spot-on.

Here are a few links for you to peruse. You may have read them before but it's definitely a good idea to read and read again.

As to nutrients: This is entirely up to you. People have nutrient lines they swear by, and others try something new every time. I personally am an organic grower and can only offer advice up that alley. If you do decide to go organic, it will require more research than synthetic nutrients. Your initial cost will be similar to the initial cost of a synthetic nutrient regime, but your maintenance costs will be next to nothing. With synthetic nutrients you're going to have to buy a new bottle every time you run out, and you'll probably have to buy new soil/soilless medium as well. In an organic mix, everything your plant needs will be in the soil, and you will re-use your soil many times without adding anything to it. The organics section will have all the information you need on that, and a quick, easy, effective mix that will lead you to success can be found here: Easy Organic Soil Mix for Beginners.

Whatever you do, make sure you're constantly studying, reading and learning. That will solve 90% of your problems. The other 10% will come from experience.

Hope this helped! Feel free to ask any specific questions you may have.

  9. I cannot tell you how much I love you man, don't take that the wrong way. I've been on my laptop way too long confused and I get a straight answer for the first time in a month (yeah, its that bad). I also have been bustin' my ass at this job trying to save up chump change so I could do what I love. So I've saved up enough for the light you linked me and the fan setup, but like I said, I won't be able to utilize any of these fine machinery until I have successfully moved out of this piece of shit apts I live in on top of that I haven't seen any luck with bag seeds recently I buy strictly from certain people and they try not to sell with sticks or seeds, so I have to look into seedbanks. Anyway I'll be posting my progress and message you about it as well, anyway cheers to you man, thanks for help, I appreciate it.

  10. Dude that was probably the most informative post I've read plus 1
