Help with deciding on equipment

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Splonk, Jan 2, 2020.

  1. Hey guys

New to the forum.Decided to take the leap and attempt a grow(use cannabis for ms and crohn's but don't have access to legal, sigh)

I have done quite a bit of research(there is so much info out there it can be overwhelming)but I'm not sure on the specific, type and brands,of equipment to get.

If you could pick your ideal setup, what would it be ? What is the general consensus brands, equipment
Forget cost, size and smell.Uk based also re shipping.

    Thanks for any help!

  2. Ok so first thoughts are lighting, ideally you want Quantum Boards.

Available here in the UK - invisiblesunled, ou can see some of their fixtures in my thread (check my signature).

A good air circulation system so an intake fan, an exhaust fan and carbon filter. I suggest you look at AC Infinity cloud line for those.

You will want to pick a medium you would like to grow in then discuss brands appropriate to the medium.

Nutrition again is quite based upon medium.

Test equipment such as ec/ppm meter, ph pen, humidstat and thermometer. Blue lab technology are by far the best for this gear.

You will want a good quality timer, I use a 6-way relay box which is fantastic.

There’s other bits and bobs that are extremely helpful but I don’t want to give you too much to think about too quickly.

  3. Would there be a shopping list, that most people agree on,listing the specific model, light strength, mediums etc

I need fairly strong cannabis,to have an effect,so I want to start with a decent setup(I know there is a learning curve of technique involved also)

    Thanks

  4. Yes, but you also have to consider that the size of the space you have will determine models etc.

A bigger space is going to need more light and a bigger exhaust unit than a smaller space. I’m pretty certain the majority of folk will agree with the brands I have listed above, there’s a lot of helpful information in my thread, feel free to go take a look and also ask some questions there as it’s full of knowledgeable folk.

  5. 104(l) x 75(w) x 95(h) inches,are the dimensions of the room.

I'll keep researching,it's just the specifics of the equipment/nutrients I'm stuck at.So many shapes and sizes to choose from..

  6. So roughly 9x6 foot right?

  7. If so, then that’s 54sqft.

To adequately light that area with QB’s you need at least 30watts per sqft.

You would want around 1700watts of lighting (if you choose QB).

  8. Yea,that sounds right..

  9. Looks like your getting some great help here. I did my first grow ever, bought a 4x4 grow kit with 600w HID lighting.

Turned out stronger than dispensary weed so cheers! Looks like ur researching well.

The quantum boards suggested above are a fantastic high quality light from my readings. Neck n neck with HID.

  12. Appreciate that.

What is the best light on Invisible Sun that you would recommend ?

  13. That's a pretty big space, about 54 sq ft.
I'm assuming you will use a room, and not tent(s).

About 28 watts per sq ft are needed by today's best LEDs, meaning you'd need about 1500 actual watts.
Your cheapest option for lights is the fake chinese LEDs that have gotten good reviews.
Something from this page will work.
480W + CREE XP-E2 (660nm 730nm)+ LG UV, 480W + CREE XP-E2 (660nm 730nm)+ LG UV direct from Shenzhen Kingbrite Electronics Co., Ltd. in CN

I'd guess that an 8 inch fan/filter would work, but 10 inches might be needed.
    Something like this should work:

You need to decide on a basic grow method.
Here are some of the more popular possibilities.
    1. Dirt or dirt mixed with inert ingredients in buckets.
    2. Hydroponics uses the simplest grow medium, water.
    3. Hydro-like setups like autopots and hempy buckets are popular.

After you decide on basic grow method, we can give more equipment recommendations.

I've never grown using any method other than hydro.
For people who are comfortable with meters and liquids, hydroponics can be made very easy.

  14. Probably the ISH150 type R, lovely wide spectrum with reds also, LM301H diodes so efficiency with those is outstanding.

I have to think about layout for coverage and calculate how many boards / drivers you will need. I can do that in the morning or you if you like?

  15. Well it's a spare room but if I used a tent does that mean I need less lighting ?

Not sure about Alibaba.Think I will go with a Uk,Ireland company for comeback

Whichever method will give me the best quality yield is the #1 priority..

  19. I'm with you on alibaba, but they are cheap and apparently good.
I'd rather pay a little more to get legitimate chips.

Most people use tents to contain smell and make better use of otherwise wasted light.
I've seen estimates that tent reflective walls might be able to recover 30% of otherwise wasted light.
Increase Cannabis Yields with Reflective Walls | Grow Weed Easy

Tents add complexity, so I'd prefer a grow room with space to walk around the plants.
But that could lead to wasted light unless COBs are used, which can behave more like spotlights.
I'm using 60 watt individual COBs right now, and prefer them over Quantum Boards, because they allow different plants to have different light distances.
I'd probably get something like this for each plant, and allow each plant to occupy about 4 sq ft:
Single 100W Logic Plug and Play LED Grow Light
But COBs are more expensive per watt.
This is a little less efficient using QBs, because they block more of each others' light.

  20. at anyrate, Everything starts with the light. Nothing happens until you have the light. Then it is just a matter of setting things under the lights. Gardeners debate forever how to grow once they have indoor light. Having adequate light indoors is sort of like giving a pothead god like power. You can't believe some of the crazy ways I have tried, and the pot still grows, IF you have light.
