Sativa-more of an energetic high. Usually takes longer to flower. Harder to get a good yield if growing at northern latitudes. Indica-more of a body high (think couchlock). More foregiving in colder temperatures and usually a shorter flowering time. There are many hybrids available also. If planning on growing outdoors, check around the GC forums to see if others have had good luck growing seeds at your latitude. I don't have any experience growing indoors.
go for hybrids, they'll be easiest to grow and have more vigor than a straight up indica or straight up sativa, if you're lucky enough to come across a 100% of either.
Well the VAST majority of seeds you can obtain are going to be a hybrid of the two. I prefered a sativa-leaning hybrid. Ideally if I could get indica growth characteristics with a more up buzz then I was a happy man. Cinderella 99 is one of my all time favorite strains for that very reason. If I had grown outdoors I probably would go for an even more sativa-ish strain assuming it would finish at my latitude of course.
it seemed like you were saying you wanted whatever was "better" I notice from the great majority of people I've smoked with that while a full on indica can make your body feel all light, a sativa will create more of a mind buzz and gives the user a more altered state of mind feeling. my favorite hybrids are a balance of both mind and body. I normally order from attitude because I've found they have the fastest shipping.. while being full disclosure, I've ordered from several seedbanks and have always gotten my seeds.. all the sites in the legit seedbank thread are accurate for the most part they just don't say some sites may take A LOT longer than others.. you didn't detail what your lookin for but i recently grew out mandala's beyond the brain, point of no return, and 8 mile high. they were each a far end of the spectrum of indica /sativa and the middle was beyond the brain which i would highly recommend to old school growers and newbs alike. very easy to grow out and tasty potent smoke. enjoy, let me know if u want more detail on anything.. i dont want to type to much cuz u only wrote a few setences.
8 mile high is a truly mind expanding sativa great for doin creative stuff with and general tooling around - old things feel new. everyone who loves sativa's and old school weed loves this strain.. i started growing this strain early on so that i could harvest all my other strains with this, it finished ripening on the vine 2 weeks earlier than the other two and as she cures she just gets better and better. still a longer flowering plant but well worth the wait for sativa lovers. point of no return is another amazing strain, reminded me of medicine man but with a more fruity flavor.. my favorite pheno reminded me of juicy juice berry flavor from my child hood and the stone was something like, finish a joint and then theres no turning back u cant get unhigh right away and your in this narcotic stupor.. pretty sure after a full cure this is gonna among the strongest weeds ive ever grown alongside medicine man and east coast sour d. the beyond the brain is the type of smoke u can enjoy midday and while throughly giving u a mind and body stone, you dont feel overwhelmed by either.. in terms of commercial growing this would be the highest yielding of the entire bunch with the least tolerance buildup over time. while only a few weeks cured i can tell the dry weight will be much higher than any of the two other strains i grew plants from. Mandala seeds is one of the most reliable and well-priced breeders out there i doubt there is any grower who could dispute this.
I also order my seeds from the Attitude. They usually throw in some good freebies. As for my preference, it all depends on what my goal is. If I'm going out to socialize, a sativa is nice. If I want to just chill at home or get a good night's sleep, Indica is my choice.
it totally depends on what you're looking for... quantity, quality, flavor, odor level, yield, flowering time, indoor, outdoor, purple, trippy, stony, potent, mellow etc. i will settle for nothing but a sativa high that's as trippy as possible myself and want absolutely not a fucking thing to do with couclock EVER which is why i DIY, to get the fuck away from that shitty ass same old same old "dank" that you just can't get away from on the streets and that greedy fucks can't see beyond. some people DO like getting stoned though. most medical use strains are indica. a stony buzz would slow someone hyperactive & jumpy down and nervous people should stay the fuck away from pure sativas or risk something like a near suicidal meltdown i witnessed once. it was when i was still in highschool. a group of classmates i didn't really hang out with wanted to go to the mall with their group hoochie i guess. (OK... tell me that isn't motivation to hang with peeps you don't particularly like LOL) i hadn't started blazing yet as that only happened AFTER i graduated and worked as a fastfoodbot and was corrupted by my co-workers and spoiled forever by almighty mother earth's finest california grown columbian gold later poisoned in operation git them rich white scumbag threatening hippies and mexkins paraquat/G13. anyways, they must have been toking some good old school (see what i did there?) and when the driver took a wierd cloverleaf offramp that runs parallel to the onramp only i'd been on my whole life, it looked like we were going wrong way on a one way. when i simply ASKED "aren't we going the wrong way? this in an on ramp." chickie poo flips screaming "let me out! let me out! let me out!" like marge simpson on an airplane and tries tho climb over me to jump out of a 35mph moving car "to be safe"! WHOA! it's still my favorite buzz though as long as you don't overdo it and get into it's nasty hacking, dry heaving, spinning, dizzy, naseous, anxious & paranoid territory. at moderation though, it makes EVERYTHING seem funner and brand new. TV can look 3D, movies feel more real, stupid shit is hysterical, food tastes like you're having an orgasm, & you get a light floating feeling that ranges from a feeling like you''re always walking downhill up to your legs being helium balloons ready to float away at any second. i'm sure that's where the term "get high" comes from. pure sativas are a bitch to grow though. they take forever, get huge and don't yield as uch and don't have the bag appeal of sticky bud which sadly few realize is an idiotic way to judge a bud when a fluffy columbian gold bud that LOOKS like schwag to the untrained eye will fuck you up worse than the most potent indica which will only put you to sleep while sativa will keep fucking with you wide awake. LOL indicas, were originally only used for hashish, but when the feds wrecked the southwest outdoor scene and made columbian gold, acapulco gold, & panama red etc. extinct with illegal citizen poisoning paraquat spraying that it was never held accountable for. here's to hoping for rekonings in the afterlife. once sativas disappeared, the dutch hash smokers saw an opportunity to market their gear to the US in the necessary retooling of the weed industry. i had a couple catalogues from one of, if not the earliest seedbanks, super sativa seed club which carried the original "classics", afghani, skunk #1, northern lights #5, maple leaf indica, hindu kush, & william's wonder & a few others. they might even have haze or thai because it was called the super sativa seed club (SSSC). i had to argue with some dude named kees there about sativas for indoors and he kept trying to push me towards skunk #1 and was just not hearing it! skunk 1 isn't as bad as i thought it was, but it still couchlocks & smells which i don't like at all. low odor C99 has the same euphoric buzz, but is energetic instead of couchlocking (making you tired) and grows smaller & faster without much odor at all. joey weed C99 is mostly just a little grapey smelling. lowryders are the wave of the future. they use autoflowering ruderalis SATIVA to make the hybrids that use indicas to try and make sativas smaller after indica is used to make a plant smaller than stretchy no buzz rope making hemp ruderalis. as ruderalis isn't stony, now it's getting possible to get planys that smoke like sativas indoors eg. super cali haze which is so close to full size (tree) haze in smoke that they'd need to be compared side by side under identical conditions, yet they plants are much smaller. there's just so much variety in weed that there is no one size fits all answer. i'm in the minority that hates any afghanicrap myself, but all of the strains out there have different combinations & strengths of these effects and a few i'm sure i'm forgetting: euphoria, anxiety, raciness, thought provoking, confusing, trippy sensory effects, energy, tiredness, flavors, colors (including purples), odors, harshness, expansion, creativity, sociability & bud tigtness (i hate rock nugs! potent fluffy sativas are easy to break up with fingers) it's up to the individual to decide what they want, some variation of a typical cash crap stoney same old same old indica everyone else has or something that gets you high like greedy fucks can't be bothered to do for their costomers because it eats into the poor bastard's vacation time. there are great hybrids out there with a full range of effects. i really love 8 miles high. it's not the most poten strain maybe, but it was totally neutral, no couchlock or speediness, just a great happy euphoric glow with a little bit of trippiness and a wanting to dancce to good music, but you can also chill out & watch a movie on it unlike a speedy sativa dom like C99 which doesn't like to sit still and is clearheaded with some euphoria. it's a great buzz, but only for clear headed activities. as if 8 miles high's totally neutral buzz with nice psychoactivity weren't unusual enough, barney's LSD gets you stoned & high at the same time. your eyes instantly feel like lead, but you have sativa motivation on the other side fighting back & keeping you functional, but a stony indica buzz slowly creeps up & knocks you out after a couple hours. there are hundreds of other strains on either side of these two type of "neutral" buzzes. if you want to experience getting high, which you probably never have yet only knowing getting stoned, these strains will get you there indoors if not at the same insane potency leval as a 10 foot tree: haze skunk (high quality seeds) 8 miles high super cali haze and there are plenty more. you could do a grow where every single one of your strains has a different buzz. i'm not into flavors & odors so much, they're just cheap novelty effects that have noithing to do with the buzz you get from them. find the buzz 1st and then give it flavor or whatever afterwards. as someone who doesn't need to blaze to feel tired, C99 and a less racy but more psychoactive sativa are all i need. anything else is window dressing. ask 100 people whgat the best is, you'll get a 100 different answers. the MAJORITY like blueberry & haze best, but those aren't the most grow friendly strains but i've tasted pure haze and would say it's totally worth the effort if you want one of the finest smokes you can get, but milder hybrids get the job more or less done too with easier growing habits. lowryders are the future though, they take all those award winning tall strains and shrink them further while keeping the buzz more intact than with stoner bud pollutuion. there are already 2 lowryding AK-47s (the "one hit wonder") that are 18" & 24" inches tall when pure AK47 can get up to 5 feet tall or maybe even more. my answer is lowryders (but you need to breed them as they can't be cloned) bacause you can shrink any strain down with them without losing the THC traits you're after. they're super fast & small and can get you a great buzz in the smallest space possible. i WILL be giving super cali haze a good side by side direct comparison beteen other top indoor sativas. the stony side of weed is found in lowryders too down to tiny little 14" auto hindu kush.
to comment on the low ryder note.. I know a few studies have been done on potency of ruderalis strains (a variety of hemp with the auto flowering life cycle - ruderalis makes up all lowryder strains).. the THC is regarded to be significantly lower than any indica or sativa. ruderalis is a different classification of cannabis plants and after growing out a few varities of low ryders: easy ryder ak47 x low ryder white berry auto flower blue fruit automatic santa maria haze x low ryder I can without fail say that the weed is not on the same level (potency& flavor) as any non autoflowering strain. While some traits carry over, and yes it's kind've miraculous u can grow such a dwarf plant.. even with the littlest amount of work you can tie down a sativa and grow it out under 1 1/2 feet. If you can't provide the regular weed light cycle than sure autoflowering strains may be the way to go but just dont get excited about potency no matter how frosty it develops.. The best thing you can do is allow all the trichomes to cloudy up and then you'll at least get a decent buzz. But of all the autos Ive grown out my favorite was blue fruit automatic because the taste was reminiscent of dj shorts blueberry but in a faster flowering and less care intesive process. the highest yielding was white berry and the most potent was easy ryder but thats not saying much at all..
