help? what to say to the doctor?

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by euphorianx3, Aug 12, 2009.

  1. Hey, I am going to see if I can get a MMJ recommendation (california) today in 4 HOURS. This doctor works in internal medicine, is from India, and I've heard he supports marijuana as a treatment, and he said that it should be legal but I don't want to say THAT to him because he does not publicly advertise it, he has seen me before, diagnosed me as bipolar, gave me prozac and I stopped taking it after a week. I also get anxiety sometimes and depression. I also have back pain, and I cannot stand straight or lift anything without back pain, I am not sure I ever told him about that though. I think my reasons to get a card are legitmate, and I believe marijuana will increase my quality of life, but how do I tell him?

  2. How many times do we have to say the same things:

DO NOT TALK TO YOUR REGULAR DOC about MMJ.

GO to a doctor who specializes in MMJ recommendations.

Your regular doc will not be set up to issue a recommendation and won't likely know the laws around Prop 215 and SB 420.

All you need to do is get a copy of your medical records and go to a MMJ recommending doctor.

  3. My mom is a nurse and she spoke to another nurse about him and she said it sounded like he does give recommendations where appropriate but I am not 110% sure. I already scheduled the appointment and it would be wrong to not show up... so if it fails my plan IS to go to a specialized doctor and leave with my medical records today, and also my chiropractor records. Surely it is worth at least a try, isnt it?

  4. No, not really. If you ask and are denied, it will go in your medical records. I've had my recommendation for four years, and I know countless other patients. TRUST ME when I say go to a doctor that SPECIALIZES in MMJ recommendations.

  5. I am not gonna come right front and ask for one. I may ask if he thinks cannabis would help my condition. It's a harmless question and I don't see why it would go on my medical records. Besides, you should be able to request that your visit is completely confidential, and the discussion does not leave the room, no? I can't just stand the guy up. It would look bad for my mom.

  6. im trying to get a license too here in sf,ca and i think id rather just dish out the $250 to see a potdoc

  7. Euphor, how did it go?

  8. If you are in SF run to OAKLAND and see Dr. Hanny Asad...... NO DENIALS that Ive heard of. $150 for the first year and $95 thereafter

    Quick and easy!!!!!

Anyways, I went and it went alright! BUT there is a CATCH... he wants me to try prozac and abilify and in 2 weeks if the side effects are too negative or they don't work then he will give me the MMJ certificate for $150. but I don't really wanna take those drugs feedback please!

  10. just go back in 2 weeks and say they make you feel sick and not yourself

  11. i will, but i have to be honest at the same time

  12. Lol. Don't worry.
If you feel anything like I did you won't have to lie at all.
Made me so nauseous I could not move much at all for like a week.

I don't personally know many people who've not had problems with their meds.

Probably should have just done what WildWill said and gotten the records of your diagnosis.
Would've been much simpler and you wouldn't have to put yourself on those nasty meds.

Your body though, so I guess it's your call.

  13. Prozac takes at LEAST 2 weeks to even get into your system before it has any effects. Not sure about Abilify.

Forgot to mention too, that if your doctor is a friend with your parents, there's a good possibility that they'll end up knowing, even though it's supposed to be confidential. Even better reason to have gone to a MMJ Specialist.

  14. That doctor is whack if he is charging you an additional $150 for a recommendation on top of the cost of the appointment.

Go to another doctor. Not only will you have no issues getting it.. but more importantly, you won't have to take the prozac or whatever else he gave you.

  15. Yeah, I think I can handle it, in fact, I'm counting on some kind of negative effects so I can go ahead and tell the truth. Besides I have no idea which docs are reputable besides the ones I've been to already - I am quite timit around 'new' doctors.

Then I can say that the prozac gave nothing but some side effects, and my parents already know -- I had to get their permission to get it so I could use it at home, I am temporarily living with them, which took alot of convincing seeing as they are both against it. But I still managed to convince them why I need it.

See, I cant do this, my mom said it would only be OK to use MMJ at this address if I go through this doctor since she has worked in the same hospital as him since 2003 and she admires him. I have to listen to her not because of my age but because I am temporarilly living at my parents house.

  16. right on... will check em out. thx!!!

  17. Ok here's what to do:
When you first start an antidepressant, like Prozac, it can give you diarrhea. (gross, I know.) just tell him that even after being on it for 2 weeks, the diarrhea won't go away. It's gross and taboo, and he more than likely won't ask you about it.

When I started prozac, I had the same symptoms.
