Woman's toilet planters create stink in Ill. town ..Mon Jun 8, 8:29 pm ET LAKEMOOR, Ill. – The planters in Tina Asmus' front yard aren't too pleasing to some of her neighbors, and village officials in Lakemoor have told her to remove them, or face a fine. Asmus, who likes to recycle discarded items, created the planters out of two old toilets and a pedestal sink. Mayor Todd Weihoffen, who is a plumber by trade, said he stands behind police who have given Asmus 30 days to remove the toilets. But some neighbors hope that the flowers don’t last long. They’ve filed complaints with the village, and Asmus, who lives at 134 S. Highland Drive, was warned that she was in violation of an ordinance for keeping the toilets out front. She has 30 days from May 29 to remove them or she’ll be fined between $25 and $500. “The only thing I can do is enforce the ordinance,” Lakemoor President Todd Weihofen said. He said Asmus was violating an ordinance under the category “Public Nuisances Affecting Peace and Safety,” which addresses “equipment and personal property of any kind which is no longer safely usable for the purpose for which it was manufactured.” Asmus said the sentence sounded like it was supposed to pertain to junk cars, not lawn decorations. “Basically they had nothing else to apply to me so they applied that,” she said. Some neighbors complained last year, but the toilets were dismissed as “art,” Asmus said. But that might have been because Weihofen’s predecessor didn’t enforce village ordinances, said Weihofen, who in May took the office previously occupied by Virginia Povidas. “We’re trying to enforce them now,” he said. Asmus and others accused of violating ordinances are being granted a 30-day warning period before they are fined, Weihofen said. That doesn’t matter to Asmus, however. She said she wouldn’t take down the two toilets and freestanding sink in which she planted her summer garden. “I’m leaving them,” she said. “I guess we have another monthly bill.” The law The following is prohibited in Lakemoor under an ordinance listed as "Public Nuisances Affecting Peace and Safety": All unsheltered storage of old, unused, stripped, junked, and other automobiles not in good and safe operating condition, and of any other vehicles, machinery, implements, and/or equipment and personal property of any kind which is no longer safely usable for the purpose for which it was manufactured, within the corporate limits of this village. He said she faces a fine of $25 to $500 if she doesn't comply by June 15. Asmus, though, said she will not remove what she calls her "art pieces." She said each toilet planter cost about $100 to make and holds an assortment of daisies, angel's breath, lilies and other flowers. Why not just put them in regular planting pots? Whatever floats someone's boat I guess, not that I'm going to put any effort into getting them to let her keep them. Make my pot legal, not hers.

I called there, spoke to the lady @ his front desk who also is his voice mail as she said. The person you want to send an email to (such as I have) has the following Email addy: ToddWeihofen@Yahoo.com His last name has one "f" in it and not two as stated in the original article. And PLEASE keep the contents of that email civil.
Yes, but if you want reefer to be legal isn't that going to require some non-smokers to jump on the bandwagon and help us out? So, even though we aren't directly related to this, something tells me we should probably do something.
Legalization of reefer and letting this woman put toilets in her yard are completely unrelated. Unless putting her being allowed to put these things in her yard also legalized weed, I am uninterested. I'm not saying I hope she doesn't get to keep them, I'm just saying it's really not a big deal to myself.
Weed being legal wouldn't really be that big of a deal to someone who doesn't smoke it or has a desire to, but people still help out the cause... because it matters.
Her toilet planters don't matter then, except to her. So in retrospect this woman's issue isn't a big issue. The only one to benefit from it is herself.
