The plants have been growing in a closet for about a month now. They are under 4 100w cfls and they have a small computer fan blowing on them. In the past week about a third of the plants have started to wilt and i noticed the soil is like a brick with the wilting ones. When watering, should I dump a ton of water and soak all the way through? Or just use a spray bottle and soak the top soil? I feel like i need to airate them somehow by poking holes in the soil but i dont know if i should? any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys
You want the water to saturate all the soil. If the top is getting hard, you haven't been watering deeply. You can either tear up the hard top layer (being careful of roots) or better yet, transplant them into new soil. When you water, make sure you are getting runoff out the drainage holes. You might also consider adding some perlite to the soil, to help make it more "airy".
