Help please! Thrips and flowering

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by alleexx_42, Aug 16, 2023.

  1. Anyone have any recommendations on what to do? Thrips came out of nowhere right before flowering and now they’re almost getting worse with everything I’m trying. I have tried crop control and neem oil, also bt spray right before the flowering started although I believe that’s more for caterpillars. photo attached

  3. Thrips are a bitch. Most of them die and fall off after harvest during drying. I do spray BT for caterpillars but I don't know if it hurts thrips. I know it doesn't eradicate them. I apply a systemic insecticidal drench around my roses for thrips which doesn't get rid of them completely but I'd never apply that shit to cannabis plants.

My neighbor uses Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew on his cannabis plants and claims it works. I should go look, I've been meaning to see how his plants are doing anyway and give him encouragement.

  4. Hey thanks for the response! Let me know how they’re doing too!! lol I may have to pick some of that up!

  5. Spinosad is the active ingredient in Captain Jacks. What is spinosad? Spinosad is a natural substance made by a soil bacterium that can be toxic to insects. It is a mixture of two chemicals called spinosyn A and spinosyn D. It is used to control a wide variety of pests. These include thrips, leafminers, spider mites, mosquitoes, ants, fruit flies and others.
Another product that works well is Pyrethrum. Not to be confused with the chemicals Permethrin, resmethrin, and d-phenothrin (Sumithrin®). They are synthetic pyrethroids.
This is a product I use, it degrades quickly in sunlight.

  6. Thrips lay their eggs inside plant tissue, so to have a chance at eliminating them you have to spray regularly and thoroughly, and for a long enough time to break the cycle.

    This might help.

  7. Neem oil and some light permethrin will help with that. For thrips, hoppers, aphids, etc., I treat every Tuesday with Neem concentrate and I treat with BT every Friday for caterpillar control.
    Good luck!!
