HELP Plant turning brown

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by The Pink Taco, Feb 6, 2005.

  1. I have one plant here that is about 30 - 40 days old now in the beg process. Last week I have all of them a shot of blood mean. I took the amount listed on the bag(1 tsp) mixed it in w/750ml water and fed it into the plants. All are fine except for one. It is showing signs of over fert. The leaves are burning and curling under. I flushed yeaterday with 2 gallons clean water and clipped the burnt leaves. Now the very top of the plant is starting to burn. I'm freaking out here that the one reall good KB plant I have going will die. Is there anything else I can do immediately to help her out. She has already had her last transplant to her final pot, would transplanting her to fresh soil take care of the overabundance of N in my soil?

Here are a couple of pics. This is my first grow and everything has been going find up until now. I really need some help with this. Thanks to whoever can get this figured out for me.

Just some more info. The room temp stays around 85deg.F, not sure on the humidity. Soil Ph is around 6.5 on this plant. I am using a 400w MG hanging in the open air, and it is far enough away from the plant not to burn it.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Update - I studied the leaves a little closer and thought that the cause might be heat stress from being right under the light. My hand didn't get hot when I put it over the plant, but that doesn't mean anything. I tried moving it farther from the light, but no signs yet. I would still like some opinions on where I should go from here.

  2. im no growing man myself, but i have to wonder if the plant will die from that very very slight browning of the last half-cm of the leaves' edge.

And I also would like to say, that if you just today removed what you believe to be the cause, be patient and check 'em tomarrow. If theres no improvement tomarrow, then do those more serious things like the soil change and whatnot.

Its kinda like my fish tank. Keeping the chemistry right is tricky, but because it's like 40 gallons, and there's alot of filtering and pump works, changes never appear until 2 days later. Waiting may be considered risky, but its less risk than doing something too rash and escalating the problem.

  3. HIGH All, waiting is the best medicine for now..just water it the next feeding and with fingers crossed it will be Alright. Heat isn't the problem as All the leaf tips are burnt.

  4. Well, checking them over the past couple of days and they are still burning pretty bad. I did figure out that it is not burning from the light since I moved it. There is still the same thing going on leading me to believe that it is the high levels of N. Since flushing did no good would it be recommended that I remove as much of that soil as I can and replace with new. I'm really worried and don't want this plant to die.

  5. I would flush again, and dont remove the soil it will damage the roots, you can get stuff called dry flower which helps with overfert....

  6. yeah flush it with about 5 times the volume of the pot.....ie a 3 gallon pot with like 12 gallons of water..........make sure you use a good water source though........ie a good ph, ............then wait..........like unoit said it aint heat, as it's the bottom leaves too.........looks more like a potassium (K) deff........... Peace out.........Sid

    ps flush.......

  7. ok, I'm going to head to the store and get a couple more gallons of water to flush with. Im sure that the water I'm using is fine, it is R/O type of filtration from wal-mart.

I know it's not a deficiency. The plant was perfectly healthy before I added the blood meal, then once she got that is when things turned south. I also know that it's not burn from the light, she is still showing these signs after I moved her about 3 ' farther away from the light. I will for sure try flushing with more water later tonight and see what happens from that.

Thanks for all you help so far guys, I really do appreciate it.

  8. Ok, so I have now flushed with 10 more gallons tonight. That makes a total of 12 gallons ran through the pot. My only thing is I keep wondering, doesn't making the plants swim with 10 gallons of water kinda flood the hell out of the roots, then the soil stays saturated like that for a while...Won't this do more damage to my already unhealthy plant?

Anyways, keep you fingers crossed for me that she pulls through. I really hope the flushing helps. If for some reason that flushing doesn't work, what would be my next step here?

  9. that should work.........the plant may look droopy for a few days, but just keep a good temp in the room, and it'll be fine........

it may be K deff due to adding the blood meal, it could have locked it up, so the plant can't get any........

    Peace out.........Sid

  10. ok, thanks for letting me know about the K. Will flushing the soil cause all of the butrients to be leached from the soil? If so does that mean I should use a VERY light nutrient solution to put some food back into the soil???

  11. yeah but just wait a bit more, as the medium is still wet, well i guess it is?

some people flush with a weak fert, but your better doing it with water this time, and then trying that next time............Peace out............Sid

  12. Oh hell yeah the soil is still wet. I wasn't going to add any ferts yet. I was going to wait a week or so for the soil to dry and see what the plants tell me they need. Thanks again though.
