I am wondering would straight perlite grow plants? Would coconut mulch and perlite 50/50 work? What is the highest % of perlite I can have in regular soil?
perlite is there purely to help water retention & soil aeration - it has absolutely no nutrient value - same with coconut mulch. So u can use as much perlite as u want, but why???? Use 30% same as everyone else. If ur using just perlite & coconut, u will have to use a nutrient solution or ur plants will starve
Thanks! My plan was to try and use a mix of the two and just add nutrients. It just seems really light and wasnt sure if the roots would hold. It looks like oreo cookies crushed haha.
perlite is used for water retention so if u use only that you will get root rot you will need other materials to get air to the roots such as vermiculite
another suggestion would be to get some soiless mix its sterile and nuetral on the ph scale and alltogether is a great base to start with
So will perlite and coco mulch kill my plants? The seeds sprouted fine, just wanted to know if i should move them. I wanted to try something besides dirt.. Thanks for the help.
