Help my sprout is wilting and may be stretching

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by pass the pipe, Oct 21, 2011.

  1. Hi all, my plant here I believe is stretching compared to others pics of sprouts on here. Also how do I help the stem to strengthen up so it stops tilting? It's about 4 or 5 inches tall with 4 little leaves I'll post pics later when I get home.

If it won't stand on it's own prop it up with something I've had it happen with just one seed I use a clay pebble. How far away is you're light?

  3. I have 4 15 watt cfl lights about 2 inches away

Is the right spectrum you need blue for this stage but it doesn't sound like that's you're problem some seeds seem to just do that. When you re pot toy can just bury it a little:)

  5. All 4 lights are daylight bulbs 6500 k

  6. Is the stem supposed to be that long with only 4 little leaves? And is 60 watts all together with the cfls enough or should I add more?

  7. beat, i had this happen once to me from seed. That was under 2 150watt cfl. Could be a bad seed. I started with 4 this past grow and kept the 2 strongest once they were bigger. I had a "first grow" a few times...

  8. Will it still grow stronger you think or is it probably a no go?

If you can, add some more soil to bury part of your stem. If needed and you can do so without too much stress you can move to a large pot, and adjust your soil to make sure you bury a bit of the stem.

Get a small fan to blow on the plants. This will help them grow nice thick stems for when it comes time to flower.

You are going to have to treat the problem though, because stretching is just a symptom. The plant for whatever reason needs more light. That is the only thing that makes em stretch, lack of lighting. You can add more bulbs, get them closer, or get better lighting. Until you can do one of those, even replanting wont help because it will just start stretching again.

As a general rule, you want 100w of actual cfl wattage for the first plant, and 50w for each additional plant. You would need at least 3 more of those bulbs to be at the 100w mark. That is really meant as a minimum though. The more light, the better the results.

  10. How often should I water it?

Water when you're pot feels light I dunk mine into my bucket only an inch or so when they are that size then let it drain it's not as bad as my stretched seedling. I'll show you later. I'd pierce a bit of wire through the tol of the cup to stop it falling that bolt will be cold:)

  13. your soil looks like it's not airy enough, looks muddy did you add any perlite? also as joker said you should fill the cup with soil.

  14. my thoughts would be she need more light...

  15. I used hyponotex or some shit potting soil.

You're roots need air I use a few hydro pebbles and alot of perlite but I'm in coco but the theory is the same

  17. What kind of soil to use when I transplant? Also it's about 85 to 90 degrees F is that bad?

  18. Why hAs it taken
Like 3 weeks to just get this big?

  19. Another question, what wattage for cfls should I get?

  20. I think joker is right on the dot. CFL's don't get too hot at all so you can put them about an inch away from the plant. But first I would bury the stretch. Seriously, one inch away isn't going to burn them, especially if your TOTAL wattage is only 60w. When the lights are too far away the plant stretches in order to get better light penetration, but when the lights are right by the plant it puts more energy into making leaves and getting bushier. Hope this helps!
