Help my plant is almost dead

  1. Help, my 1 week old seedling is dying/ alsmost dead. The strain is pakistan valley, its my first grow everything started good, I'm using distilled water, and earthgro potting soil. I germinated in toilet paper and the root poked out in about a day so I transplanted it into a styrofoam cup with saranwrap on top and a desklamp with a 13w cfl. Took about another day to poke out of the soil. It did perfectly fine until about 2 to 3 days later when the first 2 leaves started turning yellow and almost like rotted before the second set of levaes could open. I put a little bat guano in to see if that would help cuz I read something about nitrogen diffenciency that has done nothing, now I have a toothpick holding it up and it has no leaves except the two small ones that haven't opened yet and they are starting to look like there dying up, it is under a shoplight now with 2 32w cool white fluresent bulbs and a bowl of water next to it for humidity. It has been very small compaired to all the other plants I've seen that are this old. What could be wrong or what am I doing wrong? I've read online everything that could be wrong and I'm not finding the answer.

  2. Switch soil get roots organic 707 or regular roots organic it's a great soil. You can go to eastwesthydro.com they have everything cheap. The soil could be issue and Why not put straight into a 5 gallon or whatever your pots going to be no need for cup and wrap just put it in the pot it's going to be in when you harvest. Then put a oscillating fan on it with the good soil and good light should be fine. Everyone that wraps it has problem I've never done it and my plants are fine I rarely hear someone doing it. Well Hope I was helpful Happy growing and let me know the out come.

  3. The plant is only a cm tall not even inch yet, It is barley alive right now the leave that's left is smaller than the plant and the stem is so flimsy that it won't hold it up. Should I still try amd transplant it? I really hate to just let it go cuz it takes anout a month to get seeds. But I, thinking it is probably the end of its life. Still am going to try anything that might work.

Do you have drainage? How often do you water?

  5. pH is my main concern. Do you pH your water?

  6. I water when the soil feels dry at the top, the soil seems to drain ok, but I think that may be the problem because the first two leaves almost rotted and the stem is so flimsy now if it is even still alive, should i just transplant it in better soil or is it too late? Also i thought distilled water already has a good ph?

  7. Here's what I think happened:
-those first two leaves are the cotyledon leaves, or seed leaves. They die and fall off after the plant gets established. 1 week is still kind of early for them to start to fall off, but not incredibly unusual. Overwatering could have contributed to them looking poorly.
-when the cotyledons started looking poorly, you freaked out and added guano, which burned the life out of that little seedling.

So basically, there might have been a slight problem, but you overreacted and made it much worse (not trying to be harsh). You should never add nutrients/fertilizers to a seedling that young ever. Leave it alone, don't overwater it, and see if it improves. I would say transplant it into soil that contains no fertilizers (no bat guano) but I think it's probably too fragile to withstand transplanting. Just wait and see my friend, it might perk back up as long as you don't mess with it. Next time you'll do better. Welcome to gardening, this is how we learn!

  8. I added the bat guano after it looked like it was the last resort when it was already almost gone so I figured I'm already gonnna lose this plant mine as well try this it can't make it any worse its almost dead so I sprinkled like a pinch of it on the top of the soil and sprayed alittle water. Is there anything I can do at this point to help it out alittle bit?

  9. Leave it alone and wait (mostly leave it alone) :). Next time make sure you have a well draining soil with plenty of perlite, don't overwater, and don't add any nutrients. period. Remember that it's normal for the first two leaves to fall off, it always happens. That's the way it's supposed to happen.

That soil is horrible, its the only thing I have seen worse than miracle grow drainage wise. I swear I think they mix tree bark with dryed mud and call it soil.

Most likely you are having root problems from the soil and stretching from inadequate lighting.

If this is bag seed, I would toss it and start with better soil
Transplanting is an option but transplanting early is not always good and the plant sounds half gone already. If you do transplant be very careful to minimize root damage. Do your best not to tear any existing roots, while removing as much of the bad soil as possible. Larger plants are easy but this can be a delicate operation with seedlings.

Also, get more lighting if possible. Stretching will kill seedlings and is counterproductive in an indoor grow even if it doesn't. If you can only afford one, get the largest cfls you can. Walmart sells some larger ones with their security lights, or the box style home stores will carry them as well.

Do not feed tiny seedlings. Most plants don't need food for two weeks to a month. Odds are if you see discoloration on a small soil seedling you have issues with overwatering, really bad Ph, or lack of aeration in the soil rather than a deficiency.

  11. Just transplanted seedling, moved into 3g pot with 20% perlite and 80% miracle gro seed starting potting mix, under desk lamp and work shop light, the ph of the soil after watered was a little under 7, any other things i can do to try and save it or should i just chill now and see what happens?

  12. wayy too much water i think , you dont water when the top of the soil is dry , you water when all , or nearly all, of the soil is dry (for small starting pots). oxygen is important for root growth.
Make sure your soil isnt packed tight ,

and the saran wrap that was over it , I wouldnt expect it to hurt it as long as there are a few decent air holes in it , but I don't think you NEED the saran wrap .

and at this point I think all you can do is wait , let it decide if its strong enough to live. don't over water, it can be good for your plant to be thirsty every once in a while !

  13. Just sit back, wait, don't over water. Nothing more you can do.

  14. Leave it alone now, all you can do is wait and hope that it recovers

  15. How much should i water it now?

  16. The watering was the problem. You watered the soil before the transplant right? The bat shit wouldn't of caused this people mix it with the soil for root growth when there seedlings. Well I would leave it as long as you watered before the transplant to flush all the dust and bull out it should be fine, if not just give a little water and leave it.

  17. You shouldn't water it until the soil dries out. You just gotta take a deep breath, step back, and LITFA! :smoke:
