hey..I just got done formatting my computer, and I would assume it would be ready to connect to the internet and everything, but...it's not...I have about three cd's here of applications from dell...do I have to load that...it says my computer should work without it...and all the stuff about the internet that I can find on those cd's has to do with dial up...and I have a cable modem...any help would be appreciated.
If it's a broadband connection, you should be able to just plug it in, if you have the proper modem and such that is.
nope, it doesn't even notice it's there. I can go into network settings and it doesn't have anything there...I just tried to put in the setup cd for my cable modem..but it didn't really do anything for me..it put a lan icon on the network settings but I still couldn't connect to the internet, and as soon as I took the cable from the usb port, the connection disapeared...
So if you plug in the cord to the back of your computer, does a little icon show up in the system tray? Or does it only show up when you put it there? If it's showing up, that means a new lan connection has been added and its up and running, so it should work just fine... Is your computer hooked up to the modem itself or to a hub or router?? If it's a router, you'll have to set it up first, if its connected straight away to the cable modem, then i'm confused lol I'm sure indy will be of some help to you, he is the resident pc advisor after all!
Go into interent connections, sounds like something isnt configured right in there. I had to reformat a while back and it took me a while to get the setting back the right way. like cow said, if you go through a router you might need to open up a port or reconfigure. With the icon popong up it sounds like you have a connection but something just isnt config. right.
thanks guys...I had to configure my network..thank god that's fixed...I hate my bro's laptop...and life without internet really sucks
