So my 2 current plants should be done flowering soon (1st grow) theyre almost on week 6. Im gonna start a new grow ASAP, once I make sure I have money and such. I got everything planned out for the most part, except the soil is really messin with me. At the moment, I was considering just some regular soil or composted manure (Moo Grow) with some perlite and blood and bone meal. However, I didnt know if I should start them off or use Pro-Mix at any point? Seems like good stuff, expensive though. (Im using just straight Moo Grow now) I like it, but definitely needs perlite/aeration. annnyyy advice, input, experiences is greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind I dont have hundreds of dollars to spend on soil, an am also unwilling to try MG soil again and yes, I know of FF ocean forest....is the normal FF really any different? its 5$ cheaper. Pro mix expensive? I find that it is the best for the $. I pay $35 for a big bale of it. Goes a long way. It would cost me around $100 to get that same amount of Fox Farm.
Promix is what I started with. It is pretty good though it depends on the strain you grow is the pH is 5.5 (measured runoff water). My plants didn't seem to notice but did show slight MG deficiency was easily fixed with epsom salt and a mister bottle. Next grow, I raised the pH of promix with lime but that takes 3 weeks of letting the 'dirt' sit which is too long. Harvest sun (I think, it was awhile ago...dark rust brown bags) is alittle better. I now just use FF with additives.
5.5? thats pretty low. I was gonna start the seeds out in the pro-mix if I decide to go that route, and then put them in a mix of pro-mix, soil, perlite, blood/bone meal. anyone know what kinda ratio for 5 gallons or so? I hear anything from a few tbsps to a cup or so of the additives.... hopefully I can find a smaller thing of it for cheap. I assume I can find it at home depot or ace hardware or somethin?
