Help me pick vaporizer

Discussion in 'Vaporizers' started by JBirdFTW, Jan 7, 2013.

  1. What's up Guy's just this will be my first vap and even though I've done tons of research, I've never actually used one so Im not experienced and wanted some feedback.

Most importantly it needs to vap straight herb I'm not able to purchase hash oil or anything like that. I will mainly be using this on the slopes while I am snowboarding and just outside in general because I live with my parents. So in the winter lighters and bowls just don't work out for me it's a pain in the ass and doesn't work half of the time and that's a main reason I'm looking into vaps. I have been interested in a couple so far.

    Magic flight launch box
    Trippy stix
    Pax by ploom.

--Launch box is obviously the cheapest but the look and all the parts turns me off.
--I don't know much about trippy stix but its in my price range and it seems nice looking and haven't heard much coplaints other than the chamber the herb goes in might not fit as much as I would like it too but that's not the biggest deal.
--the Pax is by far my favorite but at the price of 250$ I mean this thing would have to be phenomenal, and I heard you have to clean it all the Time or it might get resin build up and stop working correctly, if that's the only thing I can deal with that but like I said the pax is just too expensive and for me too drop that much this thing would have to be by far better than anything else.

Well thanks guys I hope you can lead me in the right direction

  2. MFLB doesnt have many parts at all. Its probably the simplest to use. Their is a bit of a learning curve but thats with most vapes. This would probably be a great vape for you.

Unless trippy stix released a new pen i didnt hear about im pretty sure you are only able to use wax and oils with it.

Pax is a great portable. However you are right the things is very expensive. A lot of users have had issues with their pax, and also it is going to require a lot of maintenance.

IMO if i were you i would start with the MFLB like most new to vaporizing do. It gives you a good idea of vaporizing and if you dont like it its only a 100 dollar dent apposed to 250.

  3. So is this something that you plan on one hitting and pocketing or sitting for a portable vape sesh? Is this for you or do you plan on using it with friends.

Can make a difference on what I'd buy. I understand you on the parts thing though, would suck to drop a battery in the snow or even have to dig in pockets alot. The pax would be nice for the slopes. Small, sleek, and no pieces and can probably be good for 1-3 people.

I'd steer clear of pens for dry herbs though as I have not heard of too many that are worth it and the battery in the pens will probably be much weaker than the pax and mflb. Only drawback to the pax is it gets gunky on the mouthpiece if not cleaned often and being on the slopes the cold may complicate that even more.

Many variable to consider... I love shopping! :D

  4. don't get the pax, the cold weather will prevent it from holding it's vaping temp. i've heard of the solo being used in the snow from reading around here *throws out arizer solo for you to google*

  5. Good to know about the temp! I too 2nd the solo suggestion. I have one and absolutely love it so I am biased but I have used it in very cold conditions with no probs.

  6. yeah. i think i'm one of the first people to really mention it here... but it is a big issue if you plan on using it outside in 40*F weather or below. not to mention it only magnifies gumming issues x10.

  7. The solo doesn't look like something I would really want to snowboard with in my pocket

  8. it's no bigger than the palm of your hand. kinda one of those things it helps to see in person. i don't think it'd be bulky and in the way if that's what you're sayin.

  9. Another thing I liked about pax was I could pre pack it with herb and when I got it out on the slopes I wouldn't have to worry about it the research I did and the things I watched it didn't look like you could do that. Can you?

i dunno man, don't own a solo myself but i've seen a friend's. for real though i am telling you the pax will not work in those temps. its not like a debate thing where you wanna see how many people agree with one poster's observation. it's the weather and air temp outside, and i'm trying to save you the trouble of coming to that same conclusion. i would go to the slopes with pre-ground bud in my grinder and pack it there, before trying a pax. (it's not a bad vape, it's just totally not right for that environment)

  11. Ya thanks man, is the solo the only one you heard of that does good in cold

The pax would be the one to get so long as it would vape well in the snow. Just clean the mouthpiece and like you said can pack it in advance and only need to push mouthpiece to start it up. Really convenient for the slopes.

The best you could do with the solo would be pre pack the glass stems which I do. I cut the fingertip off a rubber glove and use that as a plug (or just throw in a ziplock) but I wouldn't want to connect the stem to the solo (in my pocket for storage) while snowboarding.

Just an observation but when using my solo on the hills it was so much better than last year trying to pack and smoke a bowl. lol No lighters or none that shit. Just turn it on and vape. Good battery as well but should it die just use the stem as a bowl. Works like a charm.

  13. i don't believe anyone's done a "thorough stress test" in that regard. really the only 3 portable vapes i see people recommending consistently are the mlfb, pax, and solo. and of those 3, since you have enough $ to spend i'm sayin solo is your best bet. if you're worried about the glass stem breaking while in your pocket, you could get a little glasses case and store it in there. (looking at that chart it's the same height as the pax). if size is a huge factor for you, get the launch box.

  14. Nothing like being blown on the slopes lmao but ya solo sounds like overall my best bet

This ^ solo would be your best choice by far in my opinion.

  16. the atmos raw actually uses ski'ing down the slopes in there advertising lol, and from personal experience yes it worked fine while on the slopes, i understand it doesnt really vape as well as we'd all like it to but its def an option, also if u know the right people you can pay like 80$ for it...

  17. It's used mainly with dry herb right?

  18. i always used it with dry herb and was happy, but then i realized the world of wax dabs and its even better with that! makes the unit worth it imo
