Alright, here's some data! I won't be able to give absolute exact figures, I had to turn in all my handwritten notes, but I'll get them back in a week or so. According to the survey: White people were the only race to think there was no disparity in the ways drug laws affected races. Minority groups were twice as likely as whites to think that the disparity exeeded 10% The facts show: blacks are 5X as likely to get arrested for drug crimes as whites hispanics are 2X as likely to get arrested for drug crimes as whites (arrest rates for drug offenses are 4,682 per 100,000 for blacks; 1,856 per 100,000 for hispanics; and 709 per 100,000 for whites) Of total state inmates currently serving time for drug offences: 133,110 were black (50.05%) 64,800 were white (25.83%) 50,100 were hispanic (19.97%) even though a federal household survey states that: 72 percent of all drug users are white 15 percent of all drug users are black and 10 percent of all drug users are hispanic To me it seems incredibly clear that the racism inherent in the founding of the drug war is still alive and well today.
