Help me my Grass City Brethren....What would you choose??????

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Hashmouf, Apr 5, 2008.

  1. OK so I have been considering upgrading my lighting.

After a lil thought I decided I wanted to go with a 600 watt HPS digital setup

I did a some shopping around and I found what I wanted for a good deal, but then I found myself facing a very hard decision....

So I decided to ask what my fellow Growers in the City which light the would pick and why.

My 2 choices are a Cooled Hood/reflector setup LINK 1 or a Cool tube setup LINK 2

    Thank you for your opinions.

  2. my opinion is this.. and i'm trying to find out the same thing lol.

i'd go with whatever gives you the most light coverage for your area. I run a cooled hood and i can keep my 1k light as low as i want to the canopy without any issues, and i know that you can do the same with a tube.
So it's all about what kind of area they cover. I'm not that thrilled with the area mine covers and am looking to upgrade myself. I'd like to get in just a little closer without compromising the edges of the room.

PS this is the one i'm using atm. Looks pretty similar to the one that they're selling on ebay

edit: man htg always has great deals. Both of those look like a great price.

  3. Whats up August

Yeah thats my main concern as well...Since neither one say the actual "footprint" size of the hood nor tube, I was wondering which would give the best coverage in my room.

Thats why I originally decided to get the Hood set up, but then I saw the Cool Tube package and wondered if it would be more efficient since it has no angles or sides to compromise light distribution...well that's my theory anyway :D maybe someone will confirm that later.

Yeah sold my 2 1000 watts a while back, I have working the shit out of my lil 400 watter for like 4- 5 years so I think its time to step it up a bit. :)

Yeah HTG does have some great prices, nice equipment I hear too.

  4. cooled hood IMO

  5. Any elaboration of why you would choose the hood over the tube ?

  6. I'm no salesman, but since i have one of their products i wouldn't mind reviewing it. I have the 400W MH/HPS light from them and i've been running the MH for a month straight 24/0 a day and the light has held up so far. It a quality product. I wouldn't mind shopping with them again. And as to the poll i wouldn't know what to tell you cause i haven't owned either of those. I would think the vented hood would be better because you can attach a bigger inline fan to it. I'm sure you can attach the same size fan for the tube as well though. I'm just rambling though. I unno thats a tough one. :smoking:

  7. dude if that's what you produce with 400.. i can't wait to see what 600-1000 will do for ya lol.

as far as htg anything i've purchased from them has been exactly as advertised with great service and fast shipping. Also packed in plain boxes.

hopefully someone can shed some light on this cause i've always been wondering the same thing.. i wonder why they don't put the average footprint size in the ads, it's pretty important info imho.

  8. you can run the same sized fan in either, and both keep equally as cool i'm pretty sure. It's more a case of "footprint" size.

    hashmouf,
i'm sure the folks at HTG would answer these questions as well.. they're way cool on the phone.

  9. Man Im going thru the same exact issue, (thanks AW for linking me over here)

I want to step up a 400 to a 600 as well and dont know what to do hood wise . . .

I can tell you this for my .02, the cooltubes dont have as good of a reflection as the big reflector hoods. I havent used the ACTUAL hood u are looking at in the 1st link, mine are both larger 20x20 hoods but I have used them and they spread the light out much better than my cool tube IMO.

Hope u get ur issues sorted out and like AW Im astounded ur getting what u are with only a 400!! Good shit man. Let us know what u find out.

  10. i messed up :[ didnt look at the hood first, thought it was diff and was what i had that sucks!

  11. I use cool tubes and have no probs at all with heat, but what I had to do was remove the small (not very reflective) reflectors and re-rivit on some larger good quality ones and the light has a much beter coverage, these do work very well but I have not used hoods so cant really compare.

  12. ive been looking around and I think the way Im gonna go is either with the hood AW has due to my length restrictions in my cab, or the sunsytems cool sun 2 which is basically the same design as AW's hood but a little bit longer and I assume a little more light bounce.

peace dog love ur whole situation

  13. Thanks for the feedback Gonejah, I have been doing quite a bit of pondering myself I think I may go with a hood as well for light coverage purposes. thanks again for the info bro appriceate it.

  14. man im sorry i didnt respond faster.
but i would choose the hood over the tube because IMO (for i've no experience with either, so this is based on reserch and obvervation) the hood puts the light concentrated on a larger area. i know that somewhat contradics itself.
what im trying to say is the hood puts the light directly underneith itself, as the tube will throw more light on the walls than the hood
