Help me find a college!

  1. A little bit about myself.

Sat score is 1750 (only took it once so far and no prep, plan on getting a higher score in november) I am tri lingual, I speak German English and Polish all fluently. I lived in Poland Austria Croatia and New York now. I am doing the International Baccalauriat Program and I expect my average GPA to be around 3.1.
My parents live in New York atm, but we don't have enough money to pay full tuition, we could probably afford to pay 20k max 30k a year. I attend New Hampton School a private preparatory boarding school.

My dad is very good friends with austrias ex prime minister who teaches at Colombia university once a month and he thinks I should apply there and at Brown aswell. I personally don't think that I can get into any IV league because I used to be a bad student all my life until my senior year (and I also had to repeat my junior year due to social/psychological problems related to moving around the world so many times.

Colleges I have talked to at a college fair are Hobart and William Smith college, University of St Andrews, Manhattaville college and American univeristy of Paris.
Do you guys know anything about these?

Thank you for your help, I know it is a lot to answer but I would really appreciate any input!

First off, I would not pursue college information on this site anymore. There are much better resources.

If you're looking for a forum, College Confidential , this is the place to go.

A great college search tool, Find a College - College Search - Majors and Careers

The Top 50 College Info Websites

    Ok, now let's talk business...

Sorry man but no chances at Brown or Columbia, numbers are too low...try the ACT in November as well as the SAT November and December (If you're not applying ED to anywhere)

William Smith and Andrews aren't very well known so if you're looking for prestige, I would not settle on these. Manhattanville wouldn't be a bad choice, it's got some reputation here in the Northeast.

If you had problems in the beginning of high school, then an upward trend in grades is always considered. You should definitely have your guidance counselor include any information in your recommendation about any possible social/psychological issues.

Also, your dad's friend will not give you any advantage in terms of admission, just thought I'd mention.

You can afford to pay a lot, which will bode well for many colleges that are need-aware.

Do you qualify for any in-state tuition in any state?

I would start looking at the SUNYs (U of Buffalo has a great reputation) and schools like UConn, UDelaware, Ramapo, U New Hampshire, perhaps Boston University

How far are you willing to travel, and what kind of extracurriculars are you doing?

If you have questions, post back or PM me anytime!
