Help: Making a small amount of Cannabutter with a slow cooker...

Discussion in 'Cannabis & Weed Edibles: Cooking & Recipes' started by jamesvk, Dec 14, 2010.

  1. Sorry if you see this post a lot, but I just want to get specific xD

I am going to be making a tiny batch of weed brownies for one time personal use. I am going to be using a crock pot (slow cooker), 1/2 stick of butter, and about 3.5 grams of Chron.

I will first need to make cannabutter:
    The slow cooker is too big to just place the butter and weed mixture in, so I will be putting a floating bow inside the cooker with the cooker simmering water.;

Will this be sufficient to extract the THC into the 1/2 stick of butter?
And if I use a crock pot, will that cover some of the smell? I can't have the smell so I was planning on just putting the crock pot in my closet and having it cook for 12 hours or so.

So here are the main questions:
    1. Can I float a bowl or cup inside the crock pot and have the same THC extraction as if it was larger amount of butter and weed? Or should I have it touch the bottom and have water simmering around it.

    2. If I use a crock pot, will that hinder it from producing the intense smell?

    3. Will 3.5 g's of Chronic be sufficient over 3 brownies or so? (all for me :D).
I am not going to eat all at once, because I have to be careful on the slopes. But is 1.15 too much per brownie?

Im going skiing, so I am flying up to Utah with family, so I cant bring bud or smoke. But I have heard skiing and being high is the shit, so I really want to do it.

    Thanks for any advice!

  2. Decarboxylate first in the oven or the microwave

Using a bowl inside the crockpot is possible, but tricky. There are some people who are excellent at glycerine tinctures that use this method. The same rules would apply to a cannabutter extraction though.

Youd have to be careful that the bowl cant shatter, and that it wont flip over wasting all your bud. Use just enough butter to submerge your cannabis, not any more than just enough or else youll dilute your cannabinoids. Alternatively you can use exactly the amount called for in the recipe for 3 brownies, which would probably be half of the full recipe.

It will still smell a little in the crockpot, but less. Its going to take much much longer, too. You still want to cook the decarboxylated cannabis until it turns brown in the butter.

Be very careful not to die skiiing high on edibles, it's dangerous.

  3. Thank you for the reply, and a good one on that. I will most definitely Decarboxylate the buds. Never knew about that step.

    Nice tutorial.

When you do this, your using bud that is "ready to smoke". Like it's not straight from the plant right? And should it should really just crumble and smell more pungent?

And for the skiing I should be fine, I can do just about anything on skis.

Do you think i should have the crock pot on high power while the butter and weed are in a separate floating bowl?

  4. Thanks for the kind words.

This is done with cured plant material. The more cured your product is, the more natural decarboxylation has occured. Decarboxylation measured by time and heat, and you can basically in laymans terms speed up the process with low heat.

Start on medium, I think medium is fine. If it's taking too long fr your taste, work your way up. On medium, it will just take more time to brown the cannabis. This is fine, since youre doing the slow cooker method anyway. Your cannabis should look like this.

When/if your lipid solidifies it will look a green color. The picture above is how it looks when its done cooking. You dont want it to be on "high", because you want to pevent any smoking of the oil, which turns into acrolein which is a carcinogen. Anything else?

  5. Nah man, this has been a real help. I will being doing this tomorrow night.

Oh... actually, Do I need to stir every few min or so? Or can I do it like very hour or whatever?

    Thanks again man.

  6. every hour, half hour, 2 hours, whatever. Enoughto evenly fry it all.

What kind of oil are you using?

Going to use a half stick of unsalted butter or so.

Edit: for about 3 grams of high quality weed.

  8. Use just enough butter to cover the cannabis. It will concentrate the cannabinoids

  9. Geez ya had to go and get us all jonesing for some yummies, right ?! LOL

Enjoy the ride jsvk! Let us know how these turned out for you (pix maybe?) !!
