Help Identifying pest

  1. I have some tiny little flies buzzing around my plants. They're black, and smaller than the head of a pin. I can't get a picture.

Also, there are some larvae crawling around in my soil-- under the surface, where it is moist-- they're white, and move pretty fast-- I suspect they're the larvae of the flies.

Anyone know what pests these are, and how to (organically) get rid of them?

Sorry I can't post a pic, but they're so damn tiny and fast

  2. fungus gnats

they are more of a bother then a harm, the larve does eat the roots though.
your soil is a little too moist, allow to dry out more, scrape of the top 1" or so of your soil, spray with neem oil, top dress with DRY soil and put "yellow" sticky traps on the soil surface, this catches the adults returning to lay more eggs

  3. In a hydroponic situation the larvae can destroy roots pretty quickly because the media is more airated and they can spread more easily .... Personally i like to mix up a tub of Yates Baythroid 3ml/ litre and i submerse my pots completely in it so it just lapping the top for 10 mins .... than i flush it out for 10 mins while then next one sits in it for 10 .... drown the bastards in the shit and you will get them all ..... but some people can't move their pots around and doing what ganja guerilla said is the way to go in that situation.... Put stockings over your intake's to help stop them coimng in ... we have a warmer climate in australia so maybe we have more of a problem with them ... usually when they find your place they won't want to leave because its perfect

  4. Had fungus gnats awhile back and used gnatrol(It's all natural)and yellow sticky traps near the soil. Killed them all in about 1 week.
