Alright, I have a night stand with a single cabinet and turned that cabinet into a grow box. This is my first time growing and I'm inspired by the PC Growboxes. I have pictures too, if you need to see. I'm running a pc fan for the exhaust fan,and a tiny bigger pc fan for the intake, the sides are covered in alum. foil and i have 4 60 W CFLs, I think. See this is where my grey area is. I don't get it, it says uses 13 W but equivalent to 60 W. Im planning on doing the LST to get more yield. I just need you guys to help me out with the whole light situation and maybe some more on nutrients, i have a few germinated seeds in soil right now,but in my kitchen catching not alot of light, i read its bad for direct light on a seed that hasn't sprouted above soil. And I also read that you need more watts for flowering, and less for veg, or vice versa. Please clear me up!
should use another reflective material that is not metal, as it will make your little box a little oven. Ding, chickens done.
then it is actually 13 watts and not 60, so go ahead do 4x13. The conversion is for the older bulbs which people pretty much wished were still around. 13W's of CFL = 60W of Soft Incandescent light. the rule of thumb is 100w per plant to finish it competely. but this is grey and it depends on the light. you can use CFL but it wont be the bud you might be smoking already, dank? if you could just get a 150w MH or HPS. Or get 100w of red spectrum 6500 lumen bulbs to get a decent flower, maybe a small plant. What Nutes? What Soil? Whats your grow space?
sorry they are sideways, but i have the lights in a different manner now, there flush to the top of the box, its about 12-15 inches high. And you say the alluminum foil is bad? would it still work for this time? and i am using miracle grow that already has phosphorus and nitrogen in it. i'll do the potassium later on? and also, you're saying that my 13 watt bulbs, i would need 8 or 9 of them per plant? sorry im so slow...
sorry guys i actually had this in the micro growing section, my pics are on there, please let me know what i need, im guessing these 60 equivalents will do me for flowering since they are 2700 kelvin, but i will need to get some 6500 k for veg, which is like next week. is this correct? and im looking at doing maybe 3-4 lst in this space, is that possible? it is bigger than a pc case...
actually backwards, you should use those 2700K bulbs to veg, and 6500k to flower. Now yes you would really like 8 or 9 of those bulbs for 1 plant. Try to get those bulbs as close to the plant as possible without burning them. Stay away from miracle grow, period. I guess the aluminum will work if your temps arent 90+ degrees. can i take a guess out how old your plant is? like a 1 week, or maybe 2 tops? and its not even out of the seedling stage, and drop miracle grow in?
Why does everyone else use 6500 for veg and 2700 for flower? And I can't use 9 bulbs, so I'll have to buy higher wattage bulbs, any links someone can show me CFLs? I have 4 light hookups in my box and dont have room for anymore lights.
I thought I was atleast right on that part. but thanks. I think I'm gonna go pick up 4 42 watt 6500k,and a couple 60 watt 2700k today, would that work then?
you could just be a bad ass and for the all money your going to spend on cfl bulbs you could go cowboy and get a 150w hps and blow your grow out the box!!! ill be straight with you i see a new CFL grow everyday on here. Ive only seen a handful in flower, and most of them had health issues compared to its hps counter in the same grow, and ive only seen 2 complete and i wouldnt smoke that.
lol i can see this post starting a flame actually, but w.e bring it, my 600w watt 4x4x6'6 hydro vs your 50000w of cfl in a 4x4x6'6 hydro for anyone who thinks cfl's are bad ass
yea, jelly, foaming breh. was directed at future posters. you wanna go down the troll route? is that even allowed here? when your done ghetto rigging your lamp to your dresser and wanna smoke some good herb hit me up.
1: replace foil with flat white computer paper 2: You need about 100+ watts ACTUALL wattage not equivalent wattage, but for the first week or so what you got should be fine 3: You want the more powerful fan as exhaust NOT intake, you ALWAYS want negative pressure in the grow box, not positive, when its positive you will end up with stale air in the corners of the box 4: Dont put your seeds in the box before they sprout, they dont need it, it wont kill em but it IS a waste of electricity, i place the pots i planted the germmed seed in on the back of my compute above the power supply for warmth, and i leave them there untill they sprout, THEN for the first week i have em under JUST ENOUGH light to keep em from stratching, then at day 8 (pictured below0 i bumped it up to full wattage Day 7, under three 13 watts, same as you day 8, bumped up to 144 watts First day pistils showed (day twenty-something) i bumped it up to 260 cfls watts (ACTUALL, not equivalent) and added a 15 watt UVB bulb to spur on Trich development, (which works btw) i would have taken a pic of the lights but as soon as i hit 144 watts the washout was too much for my cell to handle and here is proof the UVB bulb works wonders, i got frosty FAN LEAVES, and guess what, im only 1 week into flower (since pistils showed, like 2 weeks into 12/12 total) look at that leaf in the upper right you only NEED 100 watts or so to finish a plant, but the more light during flowering the better, as long as you KEEP THE TEMPS LOW, this is VERY hard to do if you get a UVB bulb, they run hot as shit, but that is what that big blue fan is for, sits on the pot and blows cool air from the bottom of the box DIRECTLY over the UVB bulb then straight out the exhaust, which i rin in a 6 inch ducting to my Drier Vent (i dont have a drier, i use a laudromat) and a same 6 inch ducting running from the basement to the intake (our basment stays really dry, and stays about 64 degrees, awesome lol) all my lights stay cool enough to grab by hand, and the box temp never rises above 76...this is key, once foliage temps hit 86 F, they almost completely quit growing and focous almost 100% on transpiration to keep cool, which is not good because it raises your grow box humidity which in turn allows the temperature to climb even higher and forces the plant to transpire EVEN MORE the moral is lots of light and low temperatures, if you dont follow that you wont like your end results
so i bought 3 2700k soft white 42 actual watt bulbs, and 3 6500k 42 actual watt cfl daylight bulbs as well, i'll use the first three until flowering, then use the other 3 with one of the 2700k, sound good?
i would use one 2700k and two 6500 for Veg, then all three 2700k and ONE 6500 k during Flower, i always have better results with mixed spectrum then all one or the other, except in flower, mixed vs all 2700 seems not to make a big difference, i just said to add the extra 6500k mainly for added lumen output during flowering, will increase yeild
thanks for all your help man, i now have a box with white paper around it(instead of foil) and those lights set up, i bought some tomato food from the garden section, only because i read that anything you'd give a tomato you can give to a mj plant, so is this okay? please help with the nutes i can use, or how much i use of the stuff i have..?
wait till the plant is about 2 weeks old, then start at 1/4 nute strenght and work up to full. before i went organic i followed this routine Water Water Nute 1/4 water water nute 1/2 water water nute 3/4 water water nute full strenght then continue the pattern at full strength
