Hey im a new grasscity forum member whats up guys. I have used information on grasscity before and its been very useful. Alright, so today im wondering if anyone can help me identify what the problem is for my little pot plant. Here are my specifications I use an OttLite model v80112 and here is the link for it OttLite High Definition 13W Black Task Lamp - Ott Lite Model V80112 I water my plant only when the soil on top is crusty and dry. I use tap water only after letting it sit for at least 24 hours to remove the chlorine. The soil I use is Miracle Grow potting mix. I use no fertilizers This seed is from a corn sack my dealer sold me. No chronic or anything. Recently I bought a Brinks mechanical timer from wally world and it never worked properly. For the past 7 days or so the light schedule for my plant has been inconsistent, due to the malfunctioning Brinks timer. (I called customer support and they are sending me a newer model for free.) Since it sprouted I had the Ottlite on it for 20 hours on and 4 hours off. I turned the light off at 12 noon and turned it back on at 4pm. While it was on this light schedule I had it under a sink, which provided good humidity and a constant temperature. Recently, I moved it to the place you can see now in the pictures and changed the light schedule. I know this is bad and stresses the plant. I had my own reasons for doing this. The new light schedule is still 20/4 but I turn the light off at 8pm and have it come on at midnight. It has recently shown (past week) discoloration on the leaves. It's a slight tint of yellow On one leaf where it looks the worst. I see small light brown areas starting to appear. The yellow tint seems to originate from the end of the leaf and heads toward the stem. I will upload better pictures for you guys later today when I borrow a better camera. These pictures are bad but you can kinda see where the discoloration is on a few Any help at all would be appreciated.
It is my understanding that Miracle Gro isn't the greatest thing for MJ. I think it has a lot of time release nutrients and such. It is probably burning your plant. Usually young plants like clones and seedlings don't like a lot of nutes right away. If it were me I would pull it out very carefully so as to not hurt the roots. I mean pull more dirt with the plant than you think is necessary then knock out the excess dirt very carefully. I would then replant it into some kind of organic soil. Black Gold is the brand I've been using for a little while. Flush it for a day or two, then transplant to a mixed soil. I usually mix Black Gold Organic Potting Soil (Black and Orange Bag) with Bone Meal, Blood Meal, Kelp Meal and Lime. You can purchase all that stuff at most any garden shops, Black Gold is at the Fred Meyers where I live. If you mix some organic soil then put some plain stuff on top it helps the plant kind of grow into the nutrients. I have a friend who has used MG before and it grew out to bloom for him, the end product was interesting. It was crystally but tasted gross and popped like fireworks when it was lit. Maybe he did something wrong but I would definitley do a Grasscity search about using MG. Also I think if you have done this before with MG then it could just be a variation in the strain. Just a thought... Anywayz I hope this helps!
Nermy stands correct m.g. is no good for seedlings.. it is just fine to use when flowering tho in my opinion
right bro, i was posting on other forums as well to see what they thought. Alot of people said it was nute burn and i agree. Someone said to stop watering it for a while(which i did) and the green would come back and it kinda did. It put out new leaves recently and im going to get some new soil eventually. My strain isnt anything special. Just a seed i picked out of my corn sack from a dealer i know. Im not really concerned with the end product as much as i am with learning how to grow it big and strong. Is there a soil i can buy that i dont have to put a bunch of extra stuff in it, but will still let my plant grow healthy? Can i just buy some Black Gold and repot it? And if i do, would i still need to flush it? And how would i go about flushing it for a day or two? Im new to growing, sorry for all these noob questions. And i do have another major question. Should i be pruning my plant? ill upload some more recent pictures later tonight to show you guys how its doin.
just took some pics. i have a few questions What are these pistil looking thing? i circled them in red. Does this mean i have a female plant? Or are they new leaves or branches? Should i prune? And if yes, then where and how? The plant is around a month old, is it growing slow? And the stem is pretty skinny and the plant seems to me like it should have a fatter stem and be growing wider. Is this bad or normal? Is it because im not pruning? O and the leaves are doing much better since i stopped watering it. No more nute burn for now. You can see the brown spots on some of the lower leaves where it got nute burn. It has been 1 week since i made the original post and this is the progress the plant has made. At this time it is approximately 4 inches tall.
yes just repot but be careful to bring the roots up with the plant and not to break them. flushing would probably help you can find many good guides on here or elsewhere on the internet. I recommen to mix the black gold and miracle gro you have to say about 9/10s black gold or whatever soil you want (not a soil guy) and 1/10 miracle gro. you can buy soil at any local store like walmart and stuff. do not use the soil out of the ground your plant will sure die because it is infested with pests.
your plant is very tiny for its age mine is 1 foot at a month and a half it is very yellow and looks as if its suffering from ph def. rather than spending 20 dollars to get a meter it is highley recommended that you repot asap and spend like 5 bucks on soil if that. It has alot of branches and has surprisingly pushed thru against the odds right now you have a strong one. Lastly, you can't tell if its female or male untill about 2-3 weeks in the flowering stage
Your plant looks much better after a week! Don't worry about n00b questions, I still ask them, I dont think any of us ever stop learning. Black Gold is good stuff. I used to grow with it and not add anything. I always had decent crops. The All Purpose Potting Soil with the red flower on it. I also used to only use about 10 compact CFLs for lighting, and I got about an ounce a plant with 4 plants. At the time I thought it was great... BUT, now I use the organic Black Gold (orange flower) and I add my own components, when you add a simple compost tea the results are far far FAR superior! There is a lot of information on GC about organic growing, it seems complicated at first but its really very simple. I just feel like I should tell you because you are starting how I did and you can skip a lot of lame steps. I wouldn't worry about pruning just yet, typically it's reserved for the very bushy plants. I only prune to keep leaves from blocking light. It is a little small but since it had nute burn that is not suprising. Those pistil things are just part of the plant. Eventually this is where the weed will grow. Or pollen sacks if it turns out to be a male. Hit us up with some more pics!
