Hey guys, I put up a post a couple days ago http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-beginners/467152-first-grow-w-pics.html So after 2 days, I ran water through 2 to figure the ph of the runoff, the plants were sitting at 7.2-7.6 (had to use crappy ph strips, digital is on the way) and the water was around 8, so I added some PH down to some water, but I also read that letting the plants dry out would help, so I skipped 1 day of watering on 3 Heres the weird part, the two I watered to check the ph on survived, meanwhile the other 3 are almost completely dead? Idk if its just a weird coincidence or what, but I was kinda figuring it would be the other way around. I know the dmg has been done, but I'm hoping to learn my lesson so I dont repeat, or can correct this, in the future. Thanks in advance
could be root rot. you should water like every 3 days. stick your finger like 1 inch in to the soil. if its dry its time to water, if its moist wait a day and check again.
Cause of death is severe over watering. I water my plants once on very rare occasions twice a week. There is very little need to water more then that. I wait till they start to wilt then water. Keep'em burnin DirtyViperMan
Ok, I will back way off the water, kinda thought it was weird the 2 I watered are the ones that have not died yet I'll let them dry out. Thanks for the help! What is RO?
The suggestions of root-rot and overwatering are likely to have the same cause: poor drainage. How are your containers? Do they let enough water out of the bottom? What about the soil... does it drain well? On one of your close up photos it didn't look like the soil had any kind of drainage agent (like perilite). Hope things getter better for you...
Stands for Reverse Osmosis. If you are gonna grow and be serious about it, get the quality of your water under control first. You may think it doesn't matter (water is water) but it does and it does A LOT. Good luck with your grow.
STO stucco eh haha...your growing media doesnt look like it has the greatest drainage, poke some holes in those things or something to let more water escape...if you can try and see what your roots look like..when they get healthy again transplant them and mix your media with a high percentage of perlite or vermiculite or something
That makes sense, the soil I used was miracle grow moisture control. I had been thinking of making my own soil, since I live pretty far out of town and wouldnt be able to buy fox-farms unless I make a big trip. I was thinking of transplanting after a day or 2, I just need a soil with a high lvl of perlite, and I am working on getting my water quality under control now Any tips?
