Hey guys, me again. My plants are FINALLY getting dialed in. I always thought they were a little slow to grow but I figured it was because I didn’t have a bright enough light, or an exhaust system, or a humidifier, or the HST from mainlining. Now I realize the red stems and slow growth were because my light was too strong - even though it was 24” above canopy. Anyway, I have since corrected the lighting issue and the red stems are turning green again. Plants are all stretching and growing… all except one. She’s so bunched up and her colas aren’t growing any further. How do I save this girl? Do I defoliate her and leave her to grow out? Should I just give her more aggressive LST to open her out (concerned with this as she’s so thick and stubby I feel her colas will break). Anyway I’m open to any suggestions. Recovering plants - you can easily distinguish their growing colas - included photos of their branch structure: Stunted plant - can’t distinguish colas from regular leaves. There are 4 colas bunched ip with their fan leaves in the centre cluster:
Mainline structure was created via LST at the second node. Goes to show how close the branches are in the stunted plant. Her first set of colas still haven’t grown out more than an inch and a half. Sad because she’s the only one without injury and used to be my most vigorous plant.
This stuff will help ypu with a lot of problems and will make your plants grow vigorous in 48 hours. Sent from my SM-A716U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Gotta find a seller in Canada. Way overpriced on Amazon. Any other options or alternatives? I will try recharge though.
Some plants grow with crazy tight node spacing and there is just nothing you can do about it. Some plants react poorly to topping.... Genetic roll of the dice.
So nothing will really help her kick off again if it’s genetic? Ok I’ll prepare myself for that possibility. I did grow her in a soilless media and I haven’t invested in feeding the soil. It’s likely that the soil is dead and needs some bacteria. I fed them twice with DutchScience Grow Girls Grow but it’s more of a base nutrition regiment than a soil feed.
I dont see any major or even moderate nutrient issues going on, they look pretty damn healthy. They will need more nutrients down the road im sure but they look fine right now. Im betting its just the genetics. Some plants just veg slow and tight. But like i say, my last plant that grew crazy slow and tight was my favorite of them. Early growth- usually never take pictures like this but i did because the nodes were sooo tight. This is when i flipped to flower. I topped it once and did some training and removed inner nodes because the plant was way to dense. Her sisters had all been topped 2-3 times and were all 2-3x bigger still. Harvest time. Fucking beautiful. I dont regret that plant at all. In the future i know that strain is prone to grow small and tight and would likely be best grown without topping. I dont think ill ever do 4 plants in that tent again. 8-12 minimum. Vegging took to long and training took to much work. I can grow that strain in the middle of the tent where the lack of height will be made up for because the light is more intense in the middle. It would also need far less training than the rest of the plants in the tent so being in the middle is better all around.
Look at that frost! Love it. Gorgeous canopy. Your trellis came with its own frame? Or did you piece that together yourself? What size is the tent? 3x3? Lastly, was her yield comparable to the bigger plants? Great job! Maybe it was the mainlining that she didn’t take to. She was growing so fast and tall and had bigger leaves than them all. Ah well. I’ll still try to feed the soil and see what happens because as I mentioned it’s a soilless mix and the only thing in there is worm casings for ferts. Your post helps ease my mind. Thank you.
I pieced that all together. Was really cheap and the XL Binder clips on the tent poles make height adjusting stupidly simple. Thats a 5x5 tent. Her yield was half of what the other 3 did. They were in 20 gallon pots except the small one was in 15 cuz i knew she was going to be smaller. Its all genetics the plant has "taken to" the mainlining just fine but the genetic structure isnt extremely desirable. Just like a plant that grows to sparse and stretched out. People put a lot of thought and research into what light specturms affect node spacing and honestly its mostly bullshit. As long as you have enough light for your plants, 95% of what decides node spacing is genetics. A good example of that is this plant. It is a strong majority sativa but it grows superstacked indica looking kolas. Thats years of breeding to get indica structure with sativa affects. Its really irritating to me how little information breeders give about how a plant will actually grow. After growing two moonbow crosses from archive seeds i realized the moonbow crosses barely stretch when you flip them to flower. After reading a lot about them i have realized that is typical for the moonbow crosses which is totally fine, but i need to know that so i know how big to veg them and how many nodes to leave on each branch before i flip to flower. Moving forward any moonbow cross i run will have a tag that says leave 6-8 nodes on each branch at flip. Like... you want 100$ for 6 seeds that you will tell me virtually nothing about? C'mon MAN!
Good stuff man good stuff. This post was great. And yeah I got no information on the seeds, their care, or expected growth. All plants are feminized Bruce Banner 2.0.
